Tastes

Nose: apples, caramel, cinnamon Palate: apple pie, cinnamon Finish: some butterscotch, fairly short If this had a longer finish/more peat it would be really nice. At 3ppm the peat just adds a little bit of earthiness. Pretty good overall, would be nice in the fall.

Nose: floral, vanilla, honey Palate: fruits, honey, some salinity Finish: waxy, sweet, sulfur Not really my style, especially the honey notes, but not bad.

Nose: caramel Palate: char, chocolate fudge, cinnamon. Chewy mouthfeel Finish: moderately long, more char and chocolate Smooth given the proof, not super complex but still pretty good.

Nose: spice, mint Palate: very dry, rye spice and caramel Finish: slightly sweet, herbal A very rye-ey rye - bold and tasty

Nose: salt, caramel, grass Palate: vanilla, more salt Finish: slight smoke, earth The peat adds some earthiness to it but not much smoke. Would be more interesting with more smoky notes.

Nose: fruit, alcohol Palate: super sweet fruit Finish: fruity sweet burn Fruity and artificial tasting. Leaves a bad aftertaste

Batch #51 Nose: oak, cherries, brown sugar, some ethanol sting Palate: caramel, butterscotch, honey Finish: baked apples, caramel, oak Light yet complex for a bourbon. I’m not a big fan of honey flavors in any whiskey but fortunately there is much more going on. Pretty smooth for the proof.

Nose: apples, oak, candy corn Palate: more oak, vanilla, fruits Finish: sweet syrup, corn, tannins Good but not worth the difference in price from maker’s 46 (although it is more complex)

Nose: grass, orange Palate: brown sugar, more orange and grass Finish: vanilla, cinnamon Pretty good overall but has a funky sour note that comes through on some sips.

Nose: vanilla, cream, caramel Palate: same as the nose plus some baking spices Finish: same as the nose Not super complex but consistent throughout. Very smooth with a nice spice kick to keep it interesting.
