Nose is balanced with strong honey aromas that trail off into burnt leather at the tail. Upon initial sip, the honey is brought back and sits on the Palate for the entirety of the taste with periodic grassy tastes springing up. This sweet flavor is immediately erased on the Finish, with a minty and leathery burn to conclude this less than average glass.

The Nose emanates of Buttered Popcorn Jelly Bellies and Hot Creamed Corn. The Palate maintains the sweet buttery corn flavors from the Nose and melds into a medium Finish of herbal black tea and Cranberry bitterness. As the Finish lingers, salt creeps back up the throat onto the tongue and sits for the entirety at the forefront as each taste concludes. This is a suprisingly straight forward, but interesting whiskey that provides some nice variety to your collection.

Breckenridge Buddy Pass Imperial Stout Cask Whiskey
Other Whiskey — Colorado, USA
Reviewed March 2, 2025Nose eminates of honeyed pecans/almonds/walnuts. As you delve into the Palate, the honey and caramel notes come to the forefront until the back Palate sneaks up the tongue with some bitterness and sting. The initial Finish continues with the bitterness, reminiscent of coffee flavors and helping tie the relationship between the whiskey and stout cask this was finished in. This quickly transitions back to the Nose with lingering honeyed cereals and nuts hanging on the tongue. While this Finish lasts short, it lasts long enough to complete this well rounded whiskey with a smile and another pour. -
The nose drops aromas of hard butterscotch candies with a hint of astringency. The Palate has a caramel/butterscotch sweetness on the front end which only lasts a couple seconds until it transitions to cinnamon and mint on the back end. As the Palate works into this spicy conclusion, it then bleeds into a medium acidic Finish with orange peel and leather biting the tongue for 15-20 seconds.

Rod & Hammer's SLO Stills Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — California, USA
Reviewed February 16, 2025 (edited March 15, 2025)The Nose emanates in Butterscotch or Carmelized Vanilla and finishes with Oak and a hint of leather. The Palate melds into the nose with hint of sweet caramel on the front end until it cascades into Spearmint, Leather, and herbal black tea on the back end. This then transitions to the Finish, which maintains the herbal black tea and spearmint from the Back Palate and sits on your tongue with Orange Peel mixing its way into the equation. Overall pretty lengthy finish with the Orange Peel sitting for an extended period of time. Nice whiskey, with similar notes to others readily available on the market. -
Kicking this glass off, the Nose gives strong Oak/Wood Aromos with a hint of cinammon. As you jump into the Palate you may be surprised with Valentines sweet heart candy and then an immediate spiral into spicy black pepper at the back end of the Palate which lasts into the short Finish this bottle provides. As the Finish subsides, the sweetness of the candied Initial Palate returns before the Finish concludes into a waxy coat over your tongue.

Old State Bourbon Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Bakersfield, CA, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2025 (edited February 13, 2025)Initial Nose shows hints of pie crust and then slowly brings in a sweetness reminiscent of berries. This is an odd bottle indeed, where the funky aromas and taste bring intrigue but could very well not be for everybody. Following the Nose, the front Palate swirls with a breaded sweetness reminiscent of blueberry cobbler. The back Palate and Finish remove this sweetness and replace the glass with a medium length minty Finish that sits on your mouth for a couple of seconds and then fades away back into the breaded sweetness from the front Palate. Overall an interesting bottle that I don’t mind bringing out when I want something different with a little bit of funk.39.99 USD per Bottle -
Old Forester Classic 86 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 9, 2025 (edited February 12, 2025)Notes of Peppermint Candy Cane bring the Nose, which transitions to a sweet butterscotch Palate and then quickly switches to a combo of peppermint and butterscotch on the short Finish it offers. Great whiskey for the lower price offerings, with mass market production behind it. Overall a definite “Daily Driver” for me.
