    Smells like raisin scones. Tastes less sweet than would be expected but also has a distinctive banana, Jamaican rum-like "funk". Somewhat rough around the edges but tasty enough?

    Nose is raisins, acetone, and white boxed cake. Tastes cakey with raisins and rose syrup.

    Nose is pretty tropical. I get banana, papaya, and tropical flowers. Reminds me a lot of Kavalan, actually. I guess I had a pretty different experience from other people. Initial mouthfeel is heavy and thick with classic sherry cask overtones. Quickly moves to a smoky meaty brine slightly reminiscent of an Ardbeg. Finishes with cooked fruits and what I taste as Luxardo cherries. I'm really quite impressed by this NAS offering from Nikka.

    Green apples with caramel sauce up front on the nose. Surprisingly peaty when tasted. A bit of a burn with a lot of vanilla and caramel flavors. Tastes like a robust, almoust bourbon-y speyside.

    Nose: apples, bright caramel, wine must. Taste: ripe apples, pears, and plums soaked in syrup with cinnamon and allspice. Sweet and full-bodied.

    Nose: Prunes and raisins soaked in seawater and antiseptic. Flavor: Campfire smoke, big brine flavor. Tastes as if you set the ocean on fire. Makes me want a skewer.

    Nose is of dried apricots in syrup and saline. Tastes like a speyside on a smoke break. A very brief burst of apple followed by honey and cloves, all with a surprisingly dry finish. Flavor doesn't last long but you'll feel the wood tannins long after. Meh, especially for the price.

    Nose is of malty, almost umami-like flavors. Taste completely opens up to a bright bouquet of spring flowers, fresh hay, and a white peach candy-like sweetness. Interesting!

  • Château de Laubade Intemporel Hors d'Âge Bas-Armagnac

    I actually had the Intemporel No. 5 which is supposedly made of brandies aged 20-30 years. Whatever. Nose evolves quite a lot, starts off with big toasty sugar flavors almost reminiscent of a full bodied rum. Then goes into baked pears and more bright apple candy flavors. Taste took me be surprise, was not nearly as sweet as I expected it to be. A touch dry with all the wood tannins, reminiscent of some sweet tobacco leaf with an apple-y and grape candy backing. It feels more like an aged calvados than a grape-based brandy. Pretty great.

    Nose is overwhelmingly of green apple candy from childhood. Very clean taste of apple jam on biscuits. Some orange blossom honey lingering behind the jam. Solid.
