This is one of the best mixers out there, but it is really expensive and not worth sipping. If you have my taste buds, you like adding a little citrus (particularly orange) to each drink. Well, Cointreau has no particular flavor and does just that. That is what is great for mixing but poor for drinking straight. I'm definitely glad to have it on my shelf, but it is hard to compare with my Scotch collection and other items. At the end of the day though, it just works. Keep in mind that it is a mixer rather that a sipper though.37.0 USD per Bottle

Código 1530 Origen Extra Añejo Tequila
Tequila Extra Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 10, 2020 (edited January 1, 2023)This smells rich, woody, Earthy, sweet, and a little herbal with hints of spice. The palate is dry, woody, minty, and generally bitter. The wood has a nice depth of flavor though. It gets pretty bitter on the end, but until then it has a fine, wavy complexity. It blends well with the caramel sweetness. It doesn't have the complexity of Glenfarclas 25 but it does remind me a bit of it. This is a really dry drink, but it is super rich. The bitterness is a bit much and it does accentuate the alcohol a bit, but it also kind of masks it. The cocoa flavor is very helpful. There is some mint, but it is minimal. Lemon is more represent than lime, but it isn't overwhelming at all. There is some vanilla, but it isn't overly flamboyant and floral notes are minimal. The richness combined with the sweetness makes for a strong core flavor that has a mild mouth-watering effect and brings in subtlety throughout. The finish is a little too dry, but it's also quite tasty. The barrel spices are under control and fit the drink well. It doesn't taste much like a tequila, but it does have a few notes. It's hard to guess what kind of spirit this is, but it's clear that it is very good. This is the closest rival to Fuentesca that I have found. It's a tough call between a 17 and an 18 on this one.238.0 USD per Bottle -
Calvados Lemorton Reserve
Calvados — Calvados Domfrontais, France
Reviewed June 10, 2020 (edited January 13, 2021)There are some interesting flavors here. Immediately, it has that stale taste of Grappa. In this case though, the apple solidifies the fruit presence into something palatable. It's semi-dry with a bit too much cinnamon, a touch of anise, and a green apple presence that pleasantly pops in a juicy and somewhat sweet hit in the middle. The stale flavor is still not appealing, but the apple does a good job of covering it up. Imagine mixing grappa with cinnamon and one of those sour candies that gets sweet at the end. The flavor is a bit subdued, but if that's what it takes to avoid sour and cinnamon overwhelming my palate, I'll take it.54.0 USD per Bottle -
Clément Canne Bleue Rhum Blanc Agricole
Rhum Agricole Blanc — Caribbean, Martinique
Reviewed June 10, 2020It smells like grass, squash, and grape with a little bit of a peppery note. It's a bit harsh with a punch that doesn't taste overwhelmingly vegetal. There is some squash and quite a bit of grass with some hot tamales cinnamon flavor and some black pepper. It's smoky, which helps to balance it out. The alcohol is a bit strong. The vegetal element and alcohol aside and, it's pretty good. The cinnamon finish is nice and the hints of licorice and orange with some mild caramel are nice too.33.0 USD per Bottle -
Clase Azul Tequila Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 10, 2020 (edited March 26, 2021)Supremely smooth and rich, albeit quite sweet (more so than cuervo gold). I've heard that this is the most flavorful and balanced tequila around. While I can say that hints of vanilla, anise, mint, vegetables, and minerals are present, maple (well, actually agave) syrup was far and away the dominant flavor. The sweetness did give way and then return with the herbal flavors for a long, mild finish. This is quite good, especially the amazing smoothness (seriously, it doesn't taste close to 40%), but I wish the sweetness were less pronounced and the other flavors more. Really, it tastes more like a rum and if I want rum, I'll buy rum. Back in the day, when I first learned that takes tequila was made from agave I imagined that it would be super sweet. In that regard, this but tequila lands closest to the mark, but the fact that I now find it to be too sweet is problematic. I'm a scotch drinker, so keep that in mind when considering my opinion, but although I enjoyed this tequila, I found its shortcomings sufficient to keep it from top shelf status.70.0 USD per Bottle -
The nose is pretty plain but with a bit of nice like and sweet light brown sugar nectar. This is really sweet but really good tequila. It's oily and viscous. There's a bunch of butterscotch sweetness that is backed by some tropic fruit and some bitter lime to balance it out. Black pepper eventually comes out and burns in a nice way. This is damn fine tequila, though it only appelas of you like sweetness. There really isnt any smoke. There's kind of a nectar honey element too. There's a little hint of mint. This is what I always imagined tequila tasting like. This is a rich and hedonistic tequila that is still interesting and complex enough.59.0 USD per Bottle

Clan MacGregor Blended Scotch Whisky
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed June 10, 2020 (edited February 16, 2024)Wow, this is some real swill. It doesn't taste actively bad, but all of the notes are a bit on the bad side and the flavor is just so weak that it's embarrassing. There are some scotch notes of malt, smoke, sweet whatever, and... that's about it. There are hints of tartness and so on, but this is really as generic as Scotch gets. There is nothing to recommend this, although the flavors do very a bit. This is frankly quite difficult to swallow. There are flowers and hints of honey and so on, but it's a mess of unpalatable flavors. This needs a lot more age to start. That might not be enough to save it though. It smells a bit sour but also a bit like cocoa. There's mainly a lot of soggy tobacco and wood though. The palate is bitter with cocoa and tobacco notes mixed with sea spray, but it's kind of like wet luggage. There's a little bit of sweetness, but it just kind of tastes like a little bit of grog was spritzed in. It's not the worst thing ever, but it's pretty bad. The harshness is a bit more than expected, but it isn't unreasonable. A bigger sip delivers a richer and more robust flavor, but everything just kind of blends together. It has some nice grain and malt elements, showcasing the raw elements of the blend reasonably nicely. There's also a bit of fruitiness that's a bit floral with hints of apricot and definitely some vanilla. It would be pretty drinkable if it weren't inundated with sulfur. Some alcohol does show through. As an acquired tastes and under the right circumstances, it is sort of drinkable (essentially, if you're used to the sulfur and have already filled your palate a bit). Sulfur is without a doubt the preeminent flavor here. It's disgusting. The malt isn't overwhelming like that of Westward, though it's also a lighter whiskey. And it has a lot of sulfur. Like, an ungodly amount. Who knew that this was possible. This has less in the way of sharp flavor than Westward does, though it also is less robust with a more subdued mouthfeel. Still, the flavor isn't weak and those fruity, floral notes save it from being a total loss. The sulfur reminds me of San Matias Legado Blanco, but more extreme with some fruitiness to balance it out a little.6.43 USD per Bottle -
It has a strong molasses smell with some salty smoked meat. It smells really strong and the scent wafts over the table. It has a substantially oily palate. There's some bit from the alcohol. The palate has a brown sugar or molasses flavor mixed with a huge amount of garlic. It's quite salty too. It kind of tastes like barbeque sauce with some vegetables, so maybe a vegetarian barbeque meal. It's interesting and complex and it avoids the usual failings, but the garlic flavor is just way too strong, even though it is enjoyably sauteed. I'm glad I tried this, but I wouldn't want to drink it again. It eventually has a bit of that usual light rum squash flavor, but it has a strong garlic presence with some barbeque sauce.40.0 USD per Bottle

This vodka has the cleanest flavor that I have encountered. It tastes pure, like a fresh spring, with just a hint of citrus. Although I wouldn't drink it straight because it has no flavor, its lack of antiseptic notes makes it the perfect mixer. The balanced flavor is amazing and the smoothness is superb. This is really an accomplished vodka. It's a clean, neutral flavor, with some clear sweetness that tends a bit toward being sickly and brings in just a hint of wheat. There's not much alcohol flavor here at all, though it can be a bit bitter. It's a very good vodka, though there's nothing amazing about it. There's a tad of oily bitterness, but it's under control. The more I drink this, the less I really understand what all of the big fuss is about. It's a bit richer and more viscous than Belvedere perhaps, but it's also simpler. I'm thinking a 14 to 15.16.0 USD per Bottle
