Tastes

Aroma is a petit four with a faint kiss of berry. Like, if the petit fours were neighbors with the raspberry tarts in the bakery display case. Flavor follows suit with almond, butter cream, and vanilla. Throat heavy finish that migrates towards your lips the longer your sip. It's not bad, but it can be distracting. It makes an absolutely fabulous daiquiri, with all the flavors playing so well together that they made it to the playoffs.

It will lower your guard leading off with butterscotch but it follows with a swift and brutal 1-2-3-4 punch of cinnamon, all spice, clove, and ginger. It will kick in your door and ransack your kitchen leaving crumbling pieces of ginger snaps and dry-wall all over your nice clean floor. The finish is thin and tingly and about what you would expect from a spicy baked good. It's damn spicy, and smoother than the Amber. If you like ginger snaps, you could probably drink this straight. This is probably a fantastic mixer in all those holiday style cocktails. If you like ginger and cinnamon you will absolutely love this. If you hate those things (like I do), then you have no reason to ever buy this rum.

Aroma is butterscotch with a sharp and spicy, clove maybe, twang. Followed by something oily and burtb/roasted toffee. Flavor is different from pretty much anything else I've had so far. Grassy/funky with a baked goods (maybe sugar cookie) finish. In general, can be overwhelming straight, ice calms it down. Even though I'm mentioning sweet things, this isn't a sweet rum. Honestly not that enjoyable on its own, but then even the distiller calls it a mixing rum.

Aroma is apple pie (apples, vanilla, touch of cinnamon) along with faint hints of caramel, orange spice, and a little butterscotch. Flavor is something a little tropical and spicy. Rough around the edges, but calms down with some ice. I really enjoy it with coke and lime, and it make a great daiquiri. But it wants to be a sipper and it's probably still a few years away from that.

Aroma is, what I can only assume, is sugar cane. Its grassy without being herby, sweet without being sharp. It rolls around your nose. Ripe, thick, rich, & vegetal. Flavor is tart & smooth, sips easily. Finish is balanced and clean. Finishes with a quick burst of sugar cane before smoldering away. Honestly it's very easy to sip on with just an ice cube. Nothing is overwhelming or harsh. It's balanced, if not a bit mild. I don't want to say it because it IS a very balanced rum, but… it's almost boring.

Aroma starts off powdered sugar sweet with a little tart to balance it out and a subtle oak finish. Flavor kicks off with a quick burst of spice that provides a good shock before the sweet body rolls through. A smooth blackstrap molasses finish leaves your mouth tingling and happy. Overall clean and full bodied. Only downside, is the bottle is the tallest in my collection so it constantly gets pushed pushed to the back.

Aroma is orange, roasted vanilla, salted caramel, & ripe fruit. The flavor matches with a sweetness and fruitiness. Mellow banana finish. Overall, smooth and drinkable with a pleasant layered aroma that opens up with a little ice.

The aroma was roasted vanilla, maybe spiced citrus, and a little bit of nail polish. Flavor wasn't much but sharp and smokey. I never get as many flavors in the taste as I do the scent. Overall kind of a let down compared to the dark bottle and high praise/heavily suggested of the Cuban rums. Worth something as a mixer.

A little bit bolder & sweeter than the gold. Slightly preferred but only something I drink in a pinch, or when I need to buy a whole handle.

My cuban family's default mixing rum. OK with coke, but lighter and thinner than I prefer.
