There's a lot of alcohol taste and burn; it's not smooth at all. Vanilla and caramel flavors are strong, but I would have expected more of a higher-proof bourbon. My bottle is from batch 15-02; I haven't seen reviews of these later batches, but I certainly wouldn't describe it how the reviews describe earlier batches.

Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 24, 2014 (edited April 24, 2018)Standard OBSV recipe, warehouse DN, barrel 34-2K. Very complex. The nose is sugar and cherries with a little chocolate, and I feel like I smell a more-than-normal amount of alcohol. The notable thing about smelling the alcohol is that I really don't taste it. There's some warming in my mouth after drinking it, but it's surprisingly not prevalent. The texture is creamy and coating. The taste is cherries and cinnamon. I find the spiciness to be far less than the Distiller graph might indicate. A slight oakiness is prevalent in the background. -

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 10, 2014 (edited October 24, 2014)This one is fruity and sweet, but more than anything I get a strong cinnamon spiciness up front (which I'm not a fan of). It goes down very smoothly, and I don't feel any alcohol burn until after it's drunk where the burn warms my mouth. -
I get a lot of toffee on the nose of this, which is really inviting, along with vanilla, and brown sugar and honey sweetness. I think I can smell cherries, too. The taste doesn't match the nose, which I find disappointing. Alcohol taste and burn is up front which is a bit overpowering and numbing to other flavors -- most notably cinnamon and nutmeg along with oak. The finish is buttery. I rate the nose on this four stars, but the taste is only three.

Russell's Reserve 6 Year Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2014 (edited September 12, 2015)The aroma is very sweet but there's also a peppery-ness to it. In the mouth I first notice that it's very thin (which is not a bad thing, it's just not at all oily/velvety/full of body). The taste is more pepper and sweetness, with very little oakiness. It's very smooth and the alcohol burn comes in and fades out sharply, and the finish is pretty short. Quite tasty.
