The nose of the whisky is light with notes of peat and cask wood. There are also notes of berries and floral sweetness. On the tongue the drink is sweet with vanilla and caramel. There is a marvelous spice in the whisky that settles into a light and pleasent glow in the chest. The drink has an amazingly buttery mouthfeel. Best enjoyed neat, or opened with just a drop or two of water.

Glenlivet Founder's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 17, 2020 (edited May 2, 2020)The nose of the whisky is full of overripe banana with an undercurrent of butter. A few drops of water open up the barest hint of orange. On the tongue the scotch has a buttery feel with faint notes of vanilla and cask wood. As it evolves into the finish, the whisky develops a briny quality to it. Orange peel comes out very late in the finish. A good scotch that is smooth without being too subtle. Best enjoyed with a few drops of water to open up the drink. -
Wigle Deep Cut Straight Rye Whiskey - Cask Strength Single Barrel
Rye — Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, USA
Reviewed April 12, 2020First things first, the details... Age: 2 Years Mash Bill: 69.4% Rye, 6.67% Wheat, 13.89% Malted Barley Barrel/Bottle: s1946 #71/110 Notes: Chocolate, Oak, Spicy Cherry, Baking Spice, Vanilla USDA Organic My Notes: The nose of the whiskey is delightful. It features a heavy spice of cinnamon and allspice with a sweet cherry and vanilla foundation. On the tongue the spirit is incredibly spicy, but not to the point of overpowering the flavor. There is an incredible complexity to the drink. It features a light oakiness in the beginning that transitions to sweet cherry and spice. It is difficult to pull out particular spices from the flavor. The vanilla is present throughout the drink and the lightest hint of chocolate surfaces in the finish. The whisky has a strong bite that settles into a pleasant glow in the chest. Best enjoyed straight and unadulterated. Too good for mixing or diluting with icemelt. -
The nose of the bourbon reveals its spiciness before it ever meets the tongue. It consists of sweet hints of caramel and vanilla with an earthy spice to it made up of cinnamon and very faint whisps of nutmeg. The nose finishes with just a hint of fruit before the alcohol. On the palate, the whiskey is sweet and strong. The vanilla and caramel flavors expected from the nose are present, though the high proof and cinnamon plays over them. It has an oily finish with a spicy bite in the throat. It sits like a small fire in the chest, which, though strong, is not unpleasant. Would recommend enjoying as one would a rye whiskey. Should stand up to mixing in cocktails better than the average bourbon. If drinking neat or on ice, be sure to sip, not to quaff.

Knob Creek Single Barrel Select Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 16, 2020 (edited October 21, 2024)The nose is complex with notes of cinnamon and cloves in the spice profile. There is a sweet hint of maple and vanilla followed by just the lightest notes of a salty brine. The whiskey has a spicy bite that allows the brine to surface. There is a sweet undercurrent of vanilla and burnt spice throughout the drink that transitions to brine and wood smoke in the finish. The whiskey settles in the chest with the distinct glow of a long, slow burn. Its scent rises in the throat as notes of cinnamon and maple that makes for a very pleasant experience. Extremely late in the finish, after even the glow has dissipated, it leaves the mouth with a distinct peppery flavor. -
Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 14, 2020 (edited April 5, 2020)The nose whiskey is light but complex. It features notes of vanilla and burnt sugar. It finishes with just the barest hint of cask wood. On the tongue it is far spicier than the nose would suggest. There is a dark fruitiness to the drink reminiscent of oranges and chocolate. It vanilla rises in the finish. Definitely need to chew this whiskey for the full flavor profile. -

Reviewed March 14, 2020 (edited March 22, 2020)The nose of the bourbon features spicy notes of cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is a smooth drink with a pleasant spice. It carries the cinnamon promised in the nose and delivers beautifully on woody vanilla flavors. -
The nose of the gin is less powerful than most. Juniper takes the fore with coriander following soon after. A floral note takes the finish, which hints at the rose petals within the botanical mix. On the palate the gin is light when compared to most. It's balance is superb with no one botanical overpowering the others. Juniper and coriander are immediately apparent with the vegetal taste of cucumber playing in the finish. A touch of rose enters very late. An excellent gin that veritably blossoms in the mouth if one allows it to rest on the tongue for a while. My favorite gin to date.
