Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 30, 2020 (edited October 27, 2020)Liquor Junction 'Barrel #52' Barrel 20-0213 Rickhouse G Floor 4 Color is deep copper. The nose is not like any other Russell's I've tried - strong honey roasted peanuts, vanilla, cherry pie filling, and Graham cracker pie crust. Heavy mouth feel. Palate has notes of salted peanuts in cherry cola, honey butter on cornbread, peppercorns, and oak char. The finish is long and warm, lots of oak, cola, and peppercorn spice that stays on the tongue. Hands down the best Russell's pick I've had.54.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction -

Rich amber color. Nose is a bit faint and hard to decipher individual components. I get some coffee and vanilla but not much else. Oily mouthfeel, no alcohol burn. Palate has a coffee + chocolate /mocha component that is nice, with hints of vanilla and rye spices. Finish is short to medium in length and peppery with some freshly ground coffee bean and lingering rye spice. Perfectly reasonable as a nightly sipper or as a high-proof, full-bodied bourbon for a cocktail.32.0 USD per BottlePorter Square Wine & Spirits

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 11, 2020 (edited July 14, 2020)Deep reddish copper color. The nose is heavy on the ethanol in the beginning. Let it sit for a few minutes and it transforms into a caramel and maple syrup bomb. The palate is hot with caramel dipped red apples, charred cinnamon stick, black pepper, oat bran and oak tannins. The finish is long and hot with a hell of a hug, and more cinnamon stick, oat bran cereal and charred oak.49.0 USD per BottleWhole Foods Market -
Copper color. Fruit-forward nose with red grapes and stewed plums, hints of burnt sugar, vanilla bean and cocoa powder. Light bodied mouthfeel. Flavors are subtle and hard to pick out but I'm getting more stewed fruits, candied apples and chocolate covered pretzels. Finish is pretty short and unimpressive, maybe some grapes and sweet red cherries, and a little peppercorn spice.60.0 USD per BottleLiquor Junction

Release No. 24 Single Cask Pot Stilled Rum 54.5% ABV I love Privateer, particularly the Navy Yard rum. They are all single barrels and I've never had a bad one. I would put Privateer's Navy Yard rum up against Foursquare or the best aged rums in the world. Knowing how good Privateer rums can be makes this Distiller's Drawer selection particularly disappointing. The nose is quite good with notes of burnt sugar and pipe tobacco, but on the palate, the main note I get is gasoline. If I try really hard I can pick up molasses and funky over ripe bananas, but it really isn't worth trying that hard. I'll try it as a mixer, but this is the closest I've come to a drain pour in a long time.49.0 USD per BottleCambridge Spirits

Privateer The Queen's Share Rum
Aged Rum — Massachusettes, USA
Reviewed May 23, 2020 (edited May 8, 2021)Barrel #P321 55.4% ABV Breathing this in, the aroma feels dense and heavy, lots of molasses, caramel, vanilla bean, and charred cinnamon stick. Dense, viscous mouthfeel. More molasses on the palate, with creme brulee, toffee and buttery cinnamon toast. The finish is where this one disappoints. It starts well with burnt sugar and a bit of cinnamon, but tapers off to a harsh, astringent note that stays with you way too long. Without the finish, this would easily be a 4+ star rum, but that harsh ending turns it into more of a mixer for me.49.0 USD per BottleCharles Street Liquors -

Reviewed May 1, 2020 (edited July 15, 2020)Honey color. Nose has rye grass, spearmint leaves, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and hints of vanilla and brine. Full-bodied mouthfeel. Palate is a continuation of the nose with a lot of grassy rye and an explosion of baking spices, along with notes of orange zest and bittersweet chocolate, dill and oak. Finish is medium-long and minty, with less grassy rye and more rye bread, brine and lots of cinnamon and oak.62.0 USD per BottleCity Liquors -
Don Julio Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed April 25, 2020 (edited April 23, 2021)Straw color. Nose has notes of vanilla, butterscotch, ground cinnamon, sweet agave and wet earth. Palate brings fresh apples, papaya, aloe vera, faint cinnamon, and agave nectar. The agave really shines through on the finish with a little vanilla bean and orange zest, medium length and peppery. A lovely, easy-sipping tequila.69.0 USD per BottleCharles Street Liquors
