Deanston Virgin Oak
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 12, 2016 (edited August 19, 2017)A true bargain. At $30 this over delivers. It's a young whisky and shows its youth but that's ok. Aromas of lemon and apple and yeast. On the palate, it's fruity and oaky with a pleasant sweetness and I don't like my whiskies too sweet. The body has a nice viscosity that coats the mouth nicely and is very warming. A very nice everyday sipper at a great price. -
Glencadam 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 4, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Reminds me if an apple orchard, red apples on the nose and on the palate. Some alcohol bite but still pretty smooth -
Riazul Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 6, 2016 (edited April 11, 2021)Amazing tropical fruit aroma, definite pineapple. One of the best tequilas I've ever had. Real unique tropical flavor that's sweet without being cloying. I could sip this all night long. Excellent. -
Virginia Highland Malt
Single Malt — (Bottled in) Virginia, Scotland
Reviewed June 6, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Smells like a scotch should, light smoky character, light cereal grain with hints of fruit. Tastes slightly sweet, sweet fruit, touch of smoke, warming, coats the mouth. Long finish of stone fruit. Very interesting and tasty. -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 2, 2016 (edited September 29, 2016)Barreled 2007. Just didn't live up to the hype. Good for the money, yes, but way too simple for my tastes. Lighter side of medium bodied, slightly warm, tastes of sweetened nuts and caramel but just not enough complexity. Some spice on the finish but this doesn't do it for me. After reading reviews here I had higher expectations. Won't buy again. -
Pike Creek Canadian Whisky Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed April 5, 2016 (edited October 16, 2020)Very interesting and unique. Sweet port aroma of dried fruits. Lighter mouthfeel than expected but the flavors are nuanced and enjoyable. Sweet dried fruit, cherries and a very smooth moderately long finish. Not bad at all for mid $30s -
Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured

Reviewed April 5, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Very nutty aroma overriding a hint of sweetness and spice. The effects of the sherry barrel really shine. Big, rich mouthfeel leading to an incredibly smooth finish. Flavors of spiced and sweetened nuts and just wonderful. Excellent for the price. -
Glenlivet Founder's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2016 (edited September 9, 2019)Very approachable style. Floral, fruity aroma with a touch of spice with a bit of alcohol heat. Tastes on the sweet side, notes of vanilla and toffee with a creamy mouthfeel. Long sweet finish with a satisfying warmth. Simple and straightforward yet not too much so, easy to sip and enjoyable. -
Compass Box Flaming Heart 15th Anniversary Limited Edition
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed April 5, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Spicy, peaty, smoky aroma. Rich mouthfeel with a spicy touch amongst all that peat. Not terribly balanced with some sweet and some spicy flavors competing and struggling against the smoky character. Hoped for more for the price.
