Color is absent, clear. Nose is juniper, sweet, and cardamom. First sip is mild juniper, with balanced tea, sweet, citrus and and other fruit notes. Mixed 3:1 with tonic water, this Gin shines. The tea provides a flavor base, with the citrus notes and now subtle juniper really rounding it out. Overall, very well rounded Gin with a great flavor profile.

Hendrick's Midsummer Solstice
Modern Gin — Scotland
Reviewed October 12, 2019 (edited December 29, 2020)Color is absent, clear. Nose is floral, with a bouquet of unidentified flowers and lavender dominating. Underneath the floral is the classic Hendrick's Rose and cucumber. First sip is pleasant, floral, gentle. No harsh flavor or finish. The lavender does not overpower but shows. The floral is soft and mildly sweet. Quite pleasant on the rocks. Tonic water becomes very important, however, due to the delicate floral notes. Mixing with too powerful a tonic (i.e. Fever Tree Indian Tonic Water) and the bitterness of the quinine overpowers the notes and they are lost. Diet tonic (i.e. Zevia Tonic Water) also interferes with gentle notes. The right tonic though (Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water) enhances the floral notes and makes a refreshingly light and floral drink. Overall, this is a solid Gin, but I prefer classic Hendrick's for its simplicity and Orbium for its uniqueness over this take.40.99 USD per BottleFlaviar -
Batch reviewed is 19H06. Color is a basic amber. Nose has a faint oiliness, with notes of mild ethanol, faint evergreen, and subtle rye spice. First sip is pleasantly spicy, with a blend of classic rye spice, baking spice, and a very mild baseline sweetness. Mouthfeel is full, very slightly oily. Finish is a little short, with a continuation of the backing spices. Additional sips reveal subtle notes of the evergreen/juniper.19.99 USD per BottleBig Red Liquors

Color is reddish Amber. Nose is pot still oil, oak, and a little sweet, with subtle fruit notes (fig?). First sip is mildly oily, with contrasting notes of pepper and honey. Finish is moderately long with pepper and spice lingering. Solid, but I found the 12 Year Cask Strength to have a better flavor profile at a similar price point.

Color is copper. Nose is a little strong on the ethanol initially. As the ethanol is pushed aside, definite fruity notes emerge, and eventually chocolate. First sip is a little strong, but has a sweet, fruity undertone. Flavors present more clearly with the second and following sips: simple sugar, oak, and more fruit. The finish is mild spice and fruit and a tongue tingling/drying sensation from the proof. Overall, this is a very enjoyable Bourbon with strong flavors abounding, you just have to be ready for the strong alcohol nose and finish.

Color is a light Amber. Nose is a corn dominant, with a light oil influence, as well notes of vanilla. First sip is mildly sweet, with a surprising amount of vanilla and an almost syrup like flavor (think lightly butter flavored non-maple syrup but less sweet). As the light sweetness fades, a subtle cinnamon finish replaces it for a gentle finish. This is unique, if not overly complex, take on whisky. Would make a great dessert sipper.

Crown Royal Black
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed September 28, 2019 (edited February 17, 2020)Color is a dark Amber. Nose is mild toffee, subtle vanilla, and some ethanol. First sip is mildly oily, smooth. Notes of vanilla, toffee, and general mild sweetness meet you initially. The finish transitions to dry baking spices that linger. Overall, no major complaints. Solid whisky, if not particularly unique. Best value of the Crown Royal lineup. -
Color is a dark Amber. Nose is initially a little heavy on ethanol. As the ethanol clears, notes of very dry fruit, mild oak, and subtle vanilla appear. First sip is smooth, slightly oily, with notes of toffee and vanilla most prominent. With additional sips the dry fruit from the nose starts to show Finishes with subtle baking spices, primarily nutmeg, that combine with the dried fruit. Overall, the flavor is fine, and more sophisticated than classic Crown Royal, but probably not worth the price difference, particularly with the higher proof Crown Royal Black available at a lower price point.34.99 USD per BottleNavy Exchange

Color is absent, fully clear. Nose of juniper and subtle cinnamon, faint citrus notes. Sipping straight reveals a pleasant sweetness, with the nutmeg and cinnamon showing well following an initial very mild juniper. Every few sips a nice note of lemon flashes through. Very clean dry finish. Biggest flaw: doesn't stand up well at all to tonic. 1.5 oz sample disappeared in 4.5 oz of basic mild tonic water. Rather disappointing considering the nice spice-centric flavor profile and claims to be bursting with flavor.
