Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 14, 2019 (edited November 13, 2019)Color is a dark Amber. Nose gives notes of oak, leather, and bread, with an overall sweetness shining through. First sip is a balanced sweetness, toffee with a buttery undertone. Notes of nutmeg and vanilla finishing the palate, before a pleasant appearance of oak and the slightest burn that lingers just enough to remind you this is 90 proof Bourbon. Overall this is very good and very easy to drink.34.99 USD per Bottle -
Color: amber and clear, like a young Whiskey. Nose: this is definitely Gin. Juniper and citrus abound, but there is also a sweetness that sneaks through. First sip: sweet yet juniper, citrus, and a little malty. Finish: a little sharp neat (like most Gins), but clean when diluted or mixed, with a lingering maltiness and floral undertones. Very different and yet still definitely a Gin. Certainly does not lack flavor; the malty sweetness lets it shine through in any cocktail, while the Gin backbone also doesn't fade into nothing with dilution. Overall, this may take some time to get use to with the stronger flavor profiles, figuring out exactly how to use it in cocktails, but I don't dislike it either36.99 USD per Bottle

Dry Fly Straight Washington Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Washington , USA
Reviewed August 27, 2019 (edited March 2, 2023)Color is a deep amber. Nose: A little bit of oak, a little slightly sweet fruit that I can't pinpoint. First sip: Strong oak with a good note of toasted bread. Finish: Savory, almost like the butter for the bread, as well as a good amount of cinnamon. Quick but powerful on the tongue. Not sweet like a Bourbon, but also not dry either. Overall this lacks a little complexity, which makes sense given the relatively young age and 100% wheat Mashbill, but the flavors that are present are more than sufficient to make this a nice change of pace that is still recognizable as American Whiskey with the oak and spice.39.99 USD per Bottle -
Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed August 25, 2019 (edited March 27, 2020)Nose is surprisingly unsweet for a rum. Notes of grasses and vanilla and subtle banana. First sip is very funky, with oak and banana and several unidentified flavors coming through. Finishes bittersweet with just the slightest burn. This is an interesting Rum, but definitely not my favorite. The funk is a little too much neat or on the rocks, and the others flavors aren't strong enough to make it stand up to an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.Tun Alley -
Color is particularly dark for a whiskey, but still clear glossy. Nose is earthy, with notes of prairie grasses and dark chocolate. First sip is very smooth, at first almost hard to perceive. Them subtle cocoa notes arrive, followed by a delicate sprinkling of cinnamon. As I take a second and third sip, earthy notes, perhaps hops, but very subtle and not very bitter, present themselves. The finish is essentially a short linger of the cinnamon and cocoa. The overall flavor is subtle but excellent. I can't help but wish the flavors were just a little stronger. A 90 or 100 proof version would be fantastic.26.97 USD per BottleSam's Club

Sweet nose. First sip immediately rewards your nose with a smooth corn sweetness. Finish transitions to a nice amount of spice and heat that lingers. Adding a drop or 2 of water reveals a middle stage, where the corn sweetness transitions to a buttery caramel prior to the spice. Served on ice, the drink loses the final spice finish. This is definitely a Bourbon best served neat or maybe with a couple drops of water.27.97 USD per BottleSam's Club

Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 21, 2019 (edited September 17, 2019)Nose is very similar to Buffalo Trace, sweet, with just a mild hint of toffee. First sip is surprisingly mellow, just a little sweet, with an oilier mouthfeel than Buffalo Trace, pleasantly different. Subtle notes of cinnamon and nutmeg start to show, before a lingering dry baking spice finish. With a few drops of water, this really shines. I started picking up apple on the nose, and the flavor on the front of the palate along with a little vanilla. The baking spices, particularly the cinnamon, still shine through a nice finish.24.99 USD per BottleNavy Exchange -
Tanqueray London Dry Gin (47.3%)
London Dry Gin — Scotland
Reviewed August 20, 2019 (edited May 20, 2020)Nose is very juniper forward, as is expected with a London Dry Gin. The higher proof is also evident in the nose. First sip is juniper and coriander. As you finish, the coriander overtakes the juniper. This is a classic, if not the classic, London Dry, and it accomplishes the requirements as such. However, the lack of citrus flavors limit its flavor profile for straight up drinking. At the same time, the big hit of Coriander and juniper make an excellent base for a classic Dry Martini or Gin and Tonic with a good squeeze of lime, or as a Gin that doesn't get lost in more flavorful cocktails such as the Elderflower Gin and Tonic. At an affordable price, this is a good basic Gin for every home bar. -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 19, 2019 (edited September 15, 2019)Nose is full of toffee. First sip is sweet toffee followed by oak. Strong spicy finish, as is to be expected at 110 proof. Adding a few drops of water smooths out the mouthfeel and opens up notes of vanilla and cinnamon. Overall, once you get accustomed to the high proof to the flavor, this is an excellent Bourbon. However, given the price, this probably will not be your everyday Bourbon.55.99 USD per BottleCostco Wholesale -
Nose is initially a little harsh, with ethanol prevailing. However, after letting rest for a few minutes, the ethanol fades, and notes of caramel and vanilla and oak replace it. First sip is smooth and mildly sweet with definite notes of vanilla as well a subtle notes of fruit and nut. Maintains enough flavor to make a good classic cocktail. Overall a great value for the price, which is why it remains one of my favorite Bourbons.22.0 USD per BottleNavy Exchange
