Old Pulteney 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 22, 2018 (edited September 16, 2018)Nose: citrus, sweet, toffee Palate: smooth and thick mouthfeel, toffee, sweet, a little tart, a little bit of spice Finish: medium length, mild spice, malt, a little bit of sweetness A good easy to sip scotch. Not very complex but enjoyable -
Nose: very sweet, light peat, honey, slightly astringent Palate: smooth mouthfeel, light peat, sweet, slightly astringent Finish: medium short length, mild spice, a little bit of sweetness A good scotch. Not as intense or complex as it’s older siblings, but still very enjoyable. Not as much sherry or oak influence as the older highland park offerings. Some similarities to a blended scotch, which is unusual for a single malt. I suspect this is because it is young.

"Nose: sweet, floral, honeysuckle, mild spice. Palate: smooth and light, honey type sweetness, mild spice, mild oak. Finish: medium length, a background of mild spice, sweet, a little floral. A lighter, less intense bourbon than most. A lot of the standard characteristics are there but just more balance and mellow than usual. "

Nose: not a very strong nose. A little bit of sweetness and fruitiness. Barely any peat. Palate: viscous, sweet, a little bit of malt and fruitiness. Finish: short, mild spice There is just not much going on in this whiskey. There is nothing offensive, but nothing that great either. Overall just lacking. The biggest positive is that there is no astringent grain alcohol smell/taste that is often found in budget blends. Relatively inexpensive but still not worth the price.

Nose: sweet, light peat, astringent (grain whiskey), a little bit of spice, Brown sugar, malt Palate: light peat is the main flavor. A little bit of sweetness, malt and spice. Finish: medium length. Spicy, light peat, and a little bit of sweetness. Overall a very good blended scotch. On par with the standard Johnnie Walker Black in quality with maybe a little more going on as far as complexity. Nose: sweet, bananas (like artificially flavored banana taffy), honeysuckle, deat, citrus, tobacco (like vanilla hookah) Palate: intensely sweet, bananas (taffy again), a very small amount of spice, smooth mouthfeel Finish: medium length, candy sweet, a small amount of oak spice This whiskey is very different from bourbon or any other whiskey category. There are smells and flavors here that I haven’t found in a whiskey before. A very complex and interesting whiskey that is very worth trying.
