Balvenie The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 4, 2021 (edited April 3, 2022)Smells sweet like toasted waffle cones and brown butter. It is really smooth and does not taste too sweet. Lightly spicy. Maybe a little fruity? -
Fresh smell like lemongrass or something green, hay. Also has a light taste of hay. It has a lot of heat up front, and smelling it burns my nose. But it dissipates quickly. I think it mellows well and gets a little sweeter with water. I’d probably prefer it with water always, which is rare for me… 3 without h2o, 4 with h2o.

The color is really light and the aroma is bright and vibrant in spite of the obvious peat. I smell sweetness, like vanilla or honey, but not in an overwhelming way. It is fresh, like ripe citrus and lightly toasted barley. All of this strikes a really nice balance without any sacrificing any one quality. The taste is equally balanced. It is sweet, but not syrupy, and the peat brings comes in with a bit of a sour note that cuts through the sugars. The most feel is rich but the citrus keeps it from being heavy. I can see drinking this at any time, but it makes me think of spring and fall.Washington

Chivas Regal Extra 13 Oloroso Sherry Cask
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed March 6, 2020 (edited June 5, 2020)It has a really simple aroma. The taste is soft and herbal. It’s pretty simple. I probably wouldn’t seek it out again but it would be a nice summer mixer or something to complement stronger flavors.11.0 USD per PourSmoke & Barrel
