Tastes

For me- it has one of the nicest noses i’v experience in scotch; it’s not funky - and by funky I mean like the slightest smell of rotting organic matter around my garbage disposal- to me many scotches have this slight tinge. It’s very tasty, not malty- a little bit spicier on the back end than the 12 year.

Macallan 18 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 31, 2018 (edited April 6, 2018)Best signal malt i’v had- thus far. It tastes like any of the “gnar” that lurks around a glass of 12 year seems to mellow out perfectly in the 18 and turn to magic. It’s really nice- the flavors work together like a finely tuned or orchestra - Anyway, unfortunately - at $240 for a 750ml sipper @ 86 proof - Macallan can kiss my ass. Love their products- not a fan of the prices. -
Belle Meade Bourbon Mourvèdre Cask Finish
Bourbon — Indiana (bottled in Tennessee), USA
Reviewed March 25, 2018 (edited June 16, 2020)Winner of the 2018 “I have a great idea?! let’s make our own super limited release whiskey to fuel the secondary market, and tell all the important bloggers about it first!” FoMO award. 🏆🏆🏆 -
Here’s the deal: I’m a bourbon drinker who sometimes dabbles in the scotch world; I ordered a neat pour of Talisker 10 after a large glass of glenlevit 18- my mind was relaxed and open, this same kind of relaxation has lead me to to flipping over cars and jumping off of apartment roof tops into pools back in collage... . Needless to say my tolerance for ... anything... was heightened. I didn’t finish the glass- my mind kept telling me “alert alert, fire fire” , and I could feel my eyes yearning for an allergic reaction to the Smokey vapor hovering above my glass- this level of smoke doesn’t sit well for me. To me It tastes as if someone accidentally dumped an entire vile of artificial smoke flavoring in this bottle, didn’t tell anyone- and now the jokes on me. Maybe when I’m older and i’v exhausted many other interests in life I’ll come waltzing back to the campfire inhalation flavors that surrounds this bottle- but not now, and no time in the near future 👍🏼

Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask

Reviewed March 5, 2018 (edited April 5, 2018)Nice unpeated sweet scotch. I’m not much of a scotch guy but this was nice- sugary and mellow. -
Sazerac Rye 18 Year (Fall 2017)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 26, 2018 (edited December 15, 2020)Nose: Buffalo trace signature smell plus a deep brown sugar gingerbread misting. Palate: cherry cola, charred marshmallows, rye spice, oak , rich baking spices. Mouth feel: full, round, thick and delicious. Finish: spicy and dry! but not too spicy.. you're able to hold the whiskey in your mouth to enjoy it for quite some time. The oak comes and goes but definitely lets you it's there. This is definitely an older Sazerac, it has many of the same flavor notes of baby saz but stands up on its as a beautiful older rendition of this fantastic flavor. some of the other vintages such as 2016 were hallow, disjointed and nothing reminiscent of the Sazerac rye i'm used to. It's Everything you want it to be — besides available.😢 -
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2018 (edited February 12, 2018)Color: red in glass Nose: dried lawnmower grass clippings, rye, orange rind, sugar. Palate: smooth, young young oak, equal sugar substitute, unsweetened chocolate, earthy malt, dried apricot. Finish: Dry, quick, young oak, dark fruit, vegetal. My take: I could see this pairing well with a cigar This reminds me of when someone makes me a smoothly with some Funky unexpected vegetable in it. There’s a time and a place for this but I’m not sure how to articulate it?? Fresh Veggie bourbon time? and it might be better at cask strength. If you’ve ever sipped the water out of an oak barrel that your sealing- it reminds me of that... Campbell’s vegetable soup?
