Four Roses flavor profile is among my favorite. I find them very herbaceous, perfume like (positive way) and the spice from the High Rye malt bill is what I love. The Aroma here is fantastic, lots of spice, a sweet candy Aroma some milled grain and a touch of mint. The flavor is just BIG. In terms of both breadth and depth. Some sweet hard candy below a big spice bill with cinnamon, pepper, perfume notes, fruit notes. Touch of clove. Finish is spectacular and perhaps the high point. You can play in a glass for quite some time. One of my favs

Willett Family Estate Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 9, 2020Willett Purple Foil, simply one of life's great pleasures. Cinnamon, light Maple, flavors of spicy red hot candy. Amazing finish. At above 60%, this blossoms with a couple drops of water. I'm going to say it again. Finish is simply amazing. Kentucky Hugs given out with each sip. So fantastic -
Eagle Rare 17 Year Bourbon (Fall 2020)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 31, 2020 (edited November 30, 2020)Was excited to try and yet I felt slightly hollow at the end of the glass. It's good... It's just not at the level I'd expect. Very herbaceous with some mint notes through the glass. Water opened it up, but the finish was still not amazing. As always, glad I tried it. -
Gotta say that I was disappointed by this. I have great love for some of the High West line-up, but this doesn't live up to the others. Muted is the word that continues to come into my head. No single flavor stood out and the depth and finish weren't there. I'll just focus my High West on Bourye, Midwinter Night's Dram and Rendezvous Rye.

Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond 14 Year (Fall 2020)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 30, 2020 (edited March 8, 2021)Was really stupendous. I wrote my notes here before seeing the sites score and flavor profile. I can't believe they show this as lower on vanilla notes. It was a total vanilla bomb for me. Vanilla, mint and other herbal notes with a beautiful finish. Very Creamy Vanilla notes. The more I went through the glass, the more I enjoyed. Look for this! -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 24, 2020 (edited October 26, 2020)OK, so I keep thinking of one thing as I smell and taste this. (in a good way) Frosted Flakes. Aroma is of a sweet drizzle frosting on a cinnamon roll or glazed doughnut. Some oak present for sure and corn grain. Flavor follows suit in a very consistent way. Again, remember eating Frosted Flakes... First couple bites were dry and too crackly. Then you hit the sweet spot before they turned too mushy. This flavor is reminiscent of that sweet spot. Finish is oak that sugar drizzle and slight cinnamon and perhaps a touch of clove. Got herbal and apple notes at certain moments. It's good.... A bottle to chase. Not really. Tony would think IT'S GGREEATT! -
Blanton's Gold Edition
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 23, 2020 (edited September 23, 2022)Aroma is of Oak and almost cedar. Soft caramel some spice and almost almond. (yes all Aroma) The spice is wonderful on the tongue with some bittersweet chocolate that remains. Touches of honey and some caramel as well. A moment of vanilla extract, but fleeting. Finish is great. Several drops of water open this up nicely. Becomes less oily and more velvet like on the tongue. Finish isn't quite tootsie roll.. But it's some chocolate and caramel. Really nice -
Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 22, 2020 (edited November 9, 2020)The Aroma is sweet caramel with some brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. I thought about the old candy Sugar Babies for a moment. Flavor is decidedly more spicy than the Aroma hints. Lots of baking spices and some floral notes. Touches of chocolate in the background. Also getting some coffee notes. Finish is very nice and lingers well. Left with a peppery, lightly bitter perfumed flavor that I love. Truth be told, (decade ago) before I was into Bourbon as much, I loved Blanton's, without knowing the hype. I'm convinced that it's due to the High Rye malt bill as this has since become known to me. At that time, I had no idea. It's a wonderful Bourbon and worth the hunt that's become a part of securing a bottle. -
Parker's Heritage Single Barrel Bourbon 11 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed October 10, 2020 (edited December 1, 2020)OK, so I'm considering the sentence, "This is the best Bourbon I've ever had.". Even considering that makes a statement. Found on the very top shelf of a restaurant. The bartender had to get a ladder to retrieve the bottle. Said nobody had ordered it. Boom, here we go. Brown Sugar, honey and pure glory. The finish and depth was unreal. Several drops of water just enhanced everything. So simple and silky, except totally complex. Phenomenal. I'll chase this. -
Weller Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2020 (edited July 29, 2021)I actually really enjoyed this. Heard it was hit or miss for most folks. Apparently a hit for me. Vanilla Custard, Creme Brulee. Honey just the lightest touch of cinnamon and black pepper, but not spicy. Some butterscotch as well. Nice finish.
