Beefeater London Dry Gin (40%)
London Dry Gin — England
Reviewed November 6, 2021 (edited May 25, 2024)Its legendary and consistent but I cant help but feel indifferent. Its a tad watery and doesnt jump out in cocktails the way I would prefer. Still this is an old go-to for many and still a classic standby in the gin world. Disappointing that they lowered the abv going forward in this market. All that means is more water and less booze in each bottle. You would think after almost 200 years in the gin making world you would not be so...you know...lame. You would think that you would not be so....I dont know...miserly. If you are still cutting corners after cornering the market for over a century then you are either not doing it right or have lost touch. -
A tad too sweet and sort of lacks identity or at least distinct traits. I am left with the overall impression of a lemon poppyseed muffin which is cool because it helps me justify drinking this at 6 am, Aw hell who am I kidding...I'm way past the point of caring about time. Time for me to reject time. F@#$ you, time, all you ever did was make me wish that whiskey and myself had more of you. In that way you are unlike this dram because i dont wish i had more. One bottle is the perfect amount. This is good but not usually what I want in a whiskey. Price is ok for a 10 year but I wouldn’t say it’s great value. Great value is buying a slim keg of Bourbon County Stout 2015 for &$65 like i did yesterday. Top that, Ben!

What. How in the actual cuss have I not yet written about my workhorse…my sixth man…my glue guy. BT I’ve done you dirty, know that. To my shame. *stops shaking head despondently, lifts gaze from the floor and stares directly into the camera*. Hi. I’m Jack. In the wide world of whiskey there are many paths to be taken. Many places you may end up. Many ways to get there. I’m not here to tel you what I think. I’m here to tell you what I know. If you don’t have Buffalo Trace in your permanent rotation you are running the risk of leading a much lesser life As a flag bearing industry standard. A master of balance, perhaps the greatest to ever do it. Fraternizing alongside its Welller/Blantons/Pappy extended family effortlessly and BELONGING in that circle, bouncing down to the blue and white collar and getting the same love and still somehow revered by indie darlings ,as well as holding an increasingly tough line on value and still remaining more full of character, always accessible, consistent , affordable and checking all the boxes on what a workhorse daily drinker should be without compromise. Standing true to self, never selling out even after achieving veteran clout and with love pouring in from all sides. A true light, in a time when so many others have gone out. I tip my hat to Buffalo Trace, and all that it represents.

Rabbit Hole Cavehill Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed October 20, 2021 (edited February 11, 2022)I love me a good rabbit hole. I also dont understand how this whiskey earned its namesake. If i spend untold hours researching mash billls will I lose the respect of my friends and family? Because THATS how rabbit holes work. On a flat earth model AND the heliocentric model. In any case, I visited the website. Like the packaging its very glossy, classy, and bag of gassy. <<<-----( I went for the rhyme there and am not pleased with the result.) That is to say the website and Origin Tale has an abundance of flowery prose and lofty self-congratulations and though its well put together t seems to me to exist for the sole purpose of convincing you and me and themselves this belongs in that upper $60+ bourbon tier and while it makes a valiant effort, at the end of the day its all about the juice. This is a wheater. I applaud the experimental mashbill. i would even say its a great success. But though many hae tried and few have succeeded, the mark of an excellent bourbon is TIME. This has no age statement but I can tell its young. Too young. The flavor checks all the boxes. The mouthfeel is great. But it needs more time. And no amount of flowery language and elegant packaging will make up for it. Its good. Its not $60 good. You'd be better served grabbing a Makers Mark Cask Strength at that price,. But I see good things for this distillery down the road, and the lack of chill filtering deserves a tip of the cap. -
Excellent rye. The texture is king as this is a step below being described as chewy but thick and warm and peppery. I was giddy about this until I saw the age statement had been removed and replaced with “Patiently Aged” I rolled my eyes so hard they became planets and orbited out of my head and around the room picking up steam and gathering dust bunnies into the pull of their orbit. F you Jim Beam for your crappy gimmicky "extra aged" "patiently aged" nonsense. You can fool some people some time but you cant fool all the people all the time. So...yeah. This is a great rye whiskey but Ill never purchse it because of the poopy nonsense you plaster your bottles with.

Not what I want in a scotch. Does not taste like ten years. It’s light, heather and orange marmalade. No burn, no peat. Fruity but not particularly interesting. I wanted to love this because the packaging is inviting, the story is unique and Ianything succeeding that hails from a small island is a feel-good story, but despite my besty hopes this is just not there yet.

This is a made-for-well rum produced by Bacardi. So take Bacardi, somehow make it slightly thinner and crappier. So the conclusion is, unless you are besmitten with the flavor and body of Bacardi, this is a better purchase. It’s not a good purchase, but either is Bacardi. So it depends on if you want name brand crap or just regular old crap. Maybe my words are coming across as harsh burns. Well that’s exactly how this feels in the throat. So I can say “you started it!” And then that justifies Anything i've said. So neener neener.

21 Seeds Grapefruit Hibiscus
Flavored Tequila — Mexico
Reviewed October 9, 2021 (edited November 11, 2021)Not sure why all 3 flavors have to be lumped together like this but whatever. Lazy is the new normal I guess. This opinion is about the grapefruit hibiscus variant. Its good. Its bright. I dont know what hibiscus is supposed to taste like but the floral aspect is there somewhere. I dont drink flavored tequila outside of work so this opinion should mean nothing to you. And even if i did, this opinion should mean nothing to you because who the f@#! am I? But its not oily or bitter so Id be surprised if they used grapefruit peel,. I am guessing an "essence" of some sort but it doesnt taste artificial so I can get behind that. Im sure its great in a paloma. It doesnt have the annoying cloying sweetness i expect most flavored tequilas have.. this is a new-ish trend so there arent many but i assume most of the flavored tequilas suck. I can say with confidence that this product does not suck. I was told this was made by a company with an ownership group entirely composed of women.Im not sure why their agent insisted on highlighting this fact as if it should be treated differently then something not created by women. That implies to me that maybe the agent or this company itself may hold sexist views. If they dont believe women are equally as capable as men and they need special assistance or boost to maintain that equality then i dont agree with that stance. Women dont need the help of men to make and sell tequila, just the help of people who have mastered those skills, be they man, woman, or nanobot. So in my mind it seems that to use this as a selling point, this company of women must be very sexist. And thats too bad because it will chase away non-sexist people like myself. Unless that was simply the sales rep veering off into his own spiel outside of the company standard. These are the type of hard hitting questions I need answer to. Too bad there is no such thing as a journalist anymore. Just lickspittles and lap dogs for the establishment Left. And now I will step down from this soapbox and awkwardly shuffle off stage. -
Tequila El Mayor Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 2, 2021 (edited September 21, 2022)NOM 1063. Lovely packaging….mellow with subdued honey vanilla and a hint of pepper. Finishes nicely. Not much in the way of wood sugars but just enough to earn the title. A value purchase if anything.
