Kilchoman Machir Bay (2012 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)I expected more from the dram given the hype, but I found it to be a relatively uninteresting Islay malt. Great sense of peat, and nice subtle textures and flavors. Given it's price point, it's hard to come by often. -
Despite it's presentation, lack of information on the bottle, and general scorn from the masses, this is not a bad Irish at all. It literally tastes like sweet water, like a tamer Tullamore Dew (I know, right?). Tastes like a Cooley whiskey (banana, malty grain) that's lacking any kind of barrel aging. Great to offer to someone who typically doesn't drink whiskey or stronger spirits.

The Glenrothes Select Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)Simple light vanilla with touches of honey. The bartender was using it for a rather interesting looking cocktail. Next time, I'll try it that way! -
Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)Rather light and inoffensive. Goes down easy, nice and oaky. Dark, rich fruits. Since then I've been drinking Great King Street, which is a blended Lowland Scotch. I would be interested in re-visiting this dram to compare notes. -
Glenfiddich 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)Revisited years later...it's a very forgettable dram. Sherry cask? Bourbon cask? All I taste is cheap ethanol. It's a shame I see bottles of this marked to $50/$60 by me. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)[Re-Review 120515] - After trying so many sub-par whiskies lately, it was nice going back to a traditional single malt. This 12 year has a simple light profile with a happy pinch of peat smoke that I had been missing ever so much. There's a nice oaky burn that let's you know you're dealing with a speyside, and the finish leaves a little honey for you to remember it by. I don't think this deserves the hate! -
Cardhu Gold Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 3, 2015 (edited August 5, 2017)[Whiskey Live Paris 2015] Let's just say that by the end of the night, my palate was shot. Either that or this dram offered nothing worth of note!
