Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaica Rum
Navy Rum — Jamaica
Reviewed September 21, 2019 (edited March 8, 2020)Not typically a rum guy but this is delicious! Nose is overripe bananas, rotten fruit (but not in a bad way, if that makes sense) and a bit of alcohol. The bananas carry over to the palate, with grapes, some serious funk and a slight alcohol burn. Finish reminds me of grapes and sweet pipe tobacco. Makes an amazing cocktail mixer, and if you can handle the funk (it is strong) it makes an excellent sipper as well. -
Desert Door Texas Sotol Original
Sotol — Texas, USA
Reviewed September 5, 2019 (edited June 28, 2020)Strong herbal notes on the palate with hints of sweetness. Tastes very “muted” though, you can tell it was diluted to proof. Makes a great mixer; far from bad but somewhat disappointing as a sipper. I imagine it’d be awesome at a higher proof. -
Terralta Tequila Blanco 110
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 5, 2019 (edited September 8, 2019)Earthy nose with citrus notes, intense minerality on the palate with earth and alcohol heat. You can definitely feel the higher proof, but it still falls far short of harsh and is surprisingly easy going down. Delicious.46.0 USD per Bottle -
Aquilino García, Lot A-09-C-16, 51.7% ABV Earthy, grassy nose with a hint of smoke. Sweet roasted agave and tropical fruit on the palate with earthy undertones. Finish has earth, pepper, rubber, and vegetality that starts out small and quickly almost overpowers everything else. Alcohol heat throughout. Damned delicious but very intense and kinda rough. Not an easy drinker, this one.108.0 USD per Bottle

Tequila Ocho Plata La Magueyera 2014
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed July 18, 2019 (edited August 8, 2020)Very floral nose and palate. Little bit of pepper taste, agave very present throughout. This isn’t just a good tequila, it’s a FINE tequila. It just tastes fancy. Easily one of the best blancos I’ve ever tried. I highly recommend!60.0 USD per Bottle -
Got this as a gift. Peat smoke, dark cherries and tobacco on the nose. Lot of smoke on the palate, along with leather, cherries and notes of oak. Finish still has a huge amount of peat smoke, again with leather and slight notes of those sweet cherries. Too sweet to be a regular pour for me, but more than good enough for me to make sure I always have a bottle on hand.
