Basil Hayden's Caribbean Reserve Rye (Discontinued)
Rye — Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 15, 2019 (edited December 21, 2019)Neat. Nose is molasses, vanila, molasses, alcohol, molasses, hint of rye baking spices. Taste starts like standard BH rye baking spice profile, but quickly fades with molasses dominating. Finish is molasses and hangover Interesting concept.. I think that molasses rum notes could go well with baking rye spices, becoming very holiday like.. but the black rum dominates. Maybe just the rum cask would have been enough..or cut the rum in half. Regardless, it doesn't seem fitting for what is supposedly the best barrels of the high rye to be masked by something else. I've always liked BH, but thought it was overpriced..This is worse juice at a higher price. Just mix some OGD with some Myers and save some money53.0 USD per Bottle -
El Padrino de Mi Tierra Añejo
Tequila Añejo — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed December 7, 2019 (edited March 29, 2021)Neat. Nose is sweet, loads of caramel, oak, cocoa, agave, pepper. Very little heat. Taste is very sweet. Caramel, agave, milk chocolate, a little oak and smoke, and a little cherry?, cinnamon, and black pepper. Finish is, surprise, sweet..cocoa, black pepper. Medium rich mouthfeel and very smooth. It's tasty and easy to drink, but in an artificial kinda way. I'm sure this is an additive bomb. It's almost rummy and schnappy, but with more kick, yet still smooth. Think tequila mixed with Kahlua. I'm sure it will be a pleaser to those who don't like tequila. Juice is probably 2 for purists. It is what it is. I'm not dumping it, but probably wouldn't buy again32.0 USD per Bottle -
Neat. Nose is faint citrus, agave, a little minty, earthy..slight ethanol. Moderate mouthfeel, taste is light agave sweet, herbal (tarragaon, mint, slight anise), vegetal and a little team and white pepper. Finish is shortish..sweet, tart, earthy/mineral again some herbal notes. Very smooth sipper. Not particularly complex, but tasty if you like sweet and herbal. Meh on value, but 375s are available to try for about half price30.0 USD per Bottle

Neat. Nose is lots of earth, minerals, herbal (fresh tarragon/anise), cooked agave, citrus and not surprisingly, ethanol..but less than you'd expect. Taste is rich, agave sweet, anise, a little olive brine, hints of mint, white pepper and cocoa come out after several sips and acclimating to the proof. Finish is a builder..Brine, citrus peel, and cocoa and eventually that earth mineral from the nose Very unique for the proof and (additive free) craftsmanship. A tequila aficionado's blanco. Great for special occasions or a gift for that true blanco lover..They'l be impressed that you picked substance over style58.0 USD per Bottle

Olmeca Altos Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed November 23, 2019 (edited May 1, 2022)Neat. Tasting the entire Altos line..first time for the añejo. Nose is sweet, ethanol bright, fruity, barrel oak and must.. Moderately thin mouthfeel, honey/light caramel sweet, a little char, a little dessert nut (hazelnut/macadamia/almond), cinnamon, mint, and just barely some of the herbal notes of the younger expressions. Big fan of the younger expressions, and this is true to the brand The añejo notes are lighter than other cheap añejos, but also tastes more natural. Additives seem restrained if not absent. Great value, haven't found a better anejo for less $30.0 USD per Bottle -
Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed November 23, 2019 (edited July 14, 2020)Neat, in a flight of all 3 Altos expressions..2nd rating, 2nd bottle..with 6 months more experience Nose is clean and bright, a touch of oak, agave/raw sugar, vanilla, fresh green herbs and mint leaves. Taste is true to nose. Thin mouthfeel , sugar sweet, pears, light green herbs balanced perfectly with vanilla and oak tannin. Lingering finish with oak tannins, saccharine sweetness, with black pepper and cinnamon heat building up over several sips A really enjoy this line of tequila for it's lack of additives, and almost gin-like herbal nature. Gin fans, this is up your alley. I generally shy away from reposados as they can be a compromise of the clean and delicate blanco flavors and woody anejo, but this is a nice balance, preserving the delicate flavors of the blanco, but adding complexity of oak and vanilla. Personally, a shelf staple. In a blind, slightly above average but considering the uniqueness, honest manufacturing, and price, it get a big bonus15.0 USD per Bottle -
Anejo Neat. Aroma is butterscotch, oak, vanilla and a touch of heat. Taste is deep caramel sweetness, wood pencil shavings??, lots of vanilla, and some cooked agave. The finish is aspartame, oaky sawdust, allspice, and caramel coloring. Medium mouthfeel and fairly smooth Big time additive bomb..but it's also an añejo in the low $20 range..so expectations must be kept in check. Drinkable, but probably best for mixing duty or for college students trying to impress their underage friends

Neat. Nose is easy vanilla, agave, spicy oak with just a hint ethanol. Taste is crisp, light sweet sugar cane, vanilla, oak, agave, hint of green herbs. Finishes light sweet vanilla, with a slightly warming black pepper, alcohol and drying oak tannins Value is hard to beat. Honest, sippable at a mixer price18.0 USD per Bottle

Neat. Nose is sharp, agave, herbal, oaky. Mouthfeel is medium, Taste is agave sweet, vanilla, oak, tarragon, almonds, black pepper. Finish is moderate. Oak, black pepper, sucralose, almond/cherry, vanilla Pretty smooth overall. I liked the blanco, so the base product is good. Nice for the price. So a little bonus there. I believe it's a TW brand/exclusive..so worth trying, especially if on sale. 3.75 blind, bonus .25 for value25.0 USD per Bottle

Neat. Nose is light caramel, oaky, vanilla, green herbal/anise, with a touch of alcohol. Taste is similar. Very sweet with light caramel, vanilla, smoke, oak, some pepper, green herbs like tarragon, and a little perfume/floral quality. Finish is pretty long. Tart, oak tannins, saccharine sweet, vanilla, black pepper, a little salt, a little heat Average smoothness. Not harsh, but a bite. Flavors are fairly potent and pleasant enough. Has a spicy/floral/sweet profile that's uncommon. Nice drink, but priced a little high IMO. Going to ding it a little for value since the anejo is a bit better for a buck more39.0 USD per Bottle
