Señor Rio Tequila Añejo
Tequila Añejo — Tequila, Mexico
Reviewed June 16, 2019 (edited July 20, 2023)Neat. Nose is bright with oak, fruit (brandy/cognac), caramelized agave, and a very slight vanilla and cinnamon. Taste is agave, white sugar, caramel, oak, cinnamon. Mouthfeel is pretty crisp. Finishes with saccharine, cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak..very fall like. Those cognac barrels take this up a level. Mulled wine and agave nectar.. Beautiful55.0 USD per Bottle -
Tasting neat. Wow what a nose. Sweet, pretty, very fruity..like candied mangoes and peaches and a little anise. Rich mouthfeel, agave nectar, tropical fruits, anise, soft black pepper. The finish is sweet, peppery, and a little tart Overall pretty smooth with just enough bite. The nose is amazing, and the taste isn't far behind. A very 'pretty' tequila with some complexity. My favorite Los Altos blanco to date.48.0 USD per Bottle

Suerte Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed June 1, 2019 (edited September 30, 2020)Tasting neat. The nose has a little heat and is clean with agave, grass, herbs (cilantro?) citrus(lime) with some earthy mineral undertones. Taste is moderate body, mildly sweet, cooked agave, fruity, very herbal(anise, cilantro, mint). A little black pepper and a bit of alcohol heat for a nice bite. Finish is medium long and starts sweet and gets tart Overall a nice drink. I appreciate the traditional methods and the uncommon flavor profile. It's like an richer, agave forward gin..minus the juniper. Nicely priced, and will keep a bottle around when I finish this one34.0 USD per Bottle -
Olmeca Altos Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited June 27, 2019)Tasting neat. Nose is sweet, bright, ethanol sharp, raw agave, fruitiness, touch of oak, pepper, and vanilla. Any college student would recognize this as tequila..but its much more refined. Taste is crisp with raw agave, fruit, and is powdered sugar sweet. Also a little herbal mint, black pepper, with very slight vanilla and some cocoa toward the end. Finish is long lasting saccharine with a little hot cinnamon, and oak tannin.. The overall mouthfeel is moderately thin This one confuses me. I've gone through a 1/3 of a bottle trying to figure it out. I love the blanco and its bright fruity crisp summer goodness. Those flavors are still there, but the barrel distracts from those delicate flavors and don't really add much. I also realize that I'm trying to compare a < $20 tequila with those priced twice as much. Sippable, but I'd consider this all the mixing tequila you'd ever need. If you us a bottle of margarita mix, stick with JC Gold, if you want to up your game.. use this along with some real ingredients. Extra nod to value and lack of additives19.0 USD per Bottle -
Fortaleza Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 26, 2019 (edited March 21, 2020)Neat. The distiller review is right on. Nearly ripe pineapple, olive brine nose..continues on in the flavor with round agave syrup sweetness that's not over the top. Very balanced, flavorful, complex, and smooth. Moderately thick mouthfeel and a nice long, tart, semi dry finish. A definitely step up from the 'good 20-30 dollar blanco, mostly for complexity. Many hit a couple notes, this hits many Mixing and shooting would be a waste. Value wise, it's worth it for a special treat occasion55.0 USD per Bottle -
Tasting neat. Nose is pretty, crisp, sweet agave. Taste is very sweet, then fresh agave and all the fruity herbalness that it is, with a hint of black pepper at the end. There's a lot of nice clean flavors, but the sweetness turns to saccharine, especially in the finish where it's bitterly sweet. It's like the diet version of the perfect (for me) tequila..so close..but ugh27.0 USD per Bottle

Tasting neat. Pretty smooth, but with a little ethanol bite to perk it up. Nose is fruity, sweet, vanilla, oak, agave, pepper. very pretty. Taste is crisp, candy like, with some raw agave, vanila, and a hint of cinnamon spice, then black pepper. The finish is dry and sweet with agave, saccharine, and oak. I wouldn't characterize it as rich as the distiller review states. It is definitely sweet.. on getting a little close to too sweet, but it's not 'thick'. The extra age adds some vanilla and spice to give some harmony to the overly sweet plata. I generally prefer the blanco versions, but I'd go with the reposado on this, just for the balance.29.0 USD per Bottle

Espolòn Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 24, 2019 (edited May 25, 2019)Tasting neat. Nose is bright, with tart, salt, sweet, herbs, and ashy minerals. The taste is pretty true to nose..White sugar sweetness, general fruits, some herbs like anise, balanced with black pepper and an ashy finish with drying saccharine. Overall, average smoothness, lots of flavors that balance sweet and savory. Not a lot of agave. No faults, fun, and easy enough to try for the price20.0 USD per Bottle -
Sipping neat. Nose is sweet, tart, and savory. a lot of cooked agave and other vegetables, but is still pretty clean. Taste starts white sugar and saccharine sweet, then you get those herbal notes of tarragon, tobacco, and mint. The sweetness goes away at the end of the taste, but then comes back with the dry finish Overall, average smoothness.. there is a little bite. A very interesting drink as the flavors are very dynamic through the tasting and a few of them are pretty unique. Definitely try worth for the money..if only to stimulate your tasting chops.16.0 USD per Bottle
