Mezcal El Silencio Espadín
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed May 1, 2020 (edited April 27, 2021)Enjoying neat. Tequila fan, delving into mezcals. Nose is earthy, mineral, green herbs, roasted agave, hints of phenolic smoke. Ethanol is nearly absent. Tasting starts off rich and agave sweet. That phenolic smoke makes a big appearance here. Prominent, but not overwhelming. Lots of minerals, some herbalness in the background. Finish is pretty long and is sacchine sweet/tart and smoky Very smooth. This is to tequila what islay scotch is to whiskey drinkers. I believe this was created for mixing, but is very approachable and sippable, especially for those starting out in mezcals, and you won't be out too much $$ if it's not for you29.0 USD per Bottle -

Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed February 22, 2020 (edited October 29, 2020)Neat. Aroma is light, balanced, and pleasant Oak, butterscotch, vanilla, agave, herbal, earth Flavor is true to nose. Starting honey and agave sweet countered with oak and herbs and a little allspice, then butterscotch, vanilla, and slightly bitter green herbs lasting to the finish Great añejo for the price. Likable by tequila haters, yet can be appreciated by tequila lovers. On my (very) short list for good budget añejos35.0 USD per Bottle -

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited April 11, 2021)Neat. Nose is pretty as Irish whiskies are. Honey, apples, floral, touch of hazelnut or macadamia nut. Taste starts pretty and sweet. Wildflower honey, vanilla, slight oak.. The stout doesn't show up until the middle end with some hot cocoa and marshmallow. The finish is tart and sweet, then a final weird funky, bitter molasses or dark treacle that seems to linger for a while It's a personal taste thing, but this was about 90% great upgrade from standard Jameson, until that weird ending that makes me want to take another sip. It is pretty smooth and adds some interesting flavors, so this is worth a try for those that don't stomach the standard27.0 USD per Bottle -
Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 16, 2020 (edited April 11, 2021)Neat. A little heat on the nose on a fresh bottle. Base fruity notes. Reminds me of fruit cocktail, syrupy peaches, pears, a hint of banana, slight mint and musty barrel. Lots of pretty rye flavors. Caramel, Those fruity notes from the nose, stick around, plus some oak, char, allspice, rye grass, hint of vanilla. Each sip seems to bring something new. The finish has some caramel sweetness, cinnamon, oak tannins, and some building burn. The alcohol and medium light mouthfeel and the finish keep it from being cloying. Overall a very nice drink, especially for the price and readily available. Great place to start if you want to see if rye is for you, as it is a 'barely legal' rye at 51%26.0 USD per Bottle -
Neat. Nose is honey, vanila, anise, agave. Taste starts with rich, sweet, honeyed cedar, vanilla, roasted agave, lots of herbs, predominately anise, and cocoa. Flavors stick around a bit then turn to tart, sweet, bitter saccharine. Moderate mouthfeel. Overall sweet, herbal, and bitter.. It's a sipper more than a shooter. Above average at this price class and cool bottle34.0 USD per Bottle
