Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 9, 2021 (edited April 23, 2021)Nose: classic rye, spicy, bready, hint of chocolate and pepper. Taste: not sure how creamy and spicy work together, but they do. The proof gives it a definite kick, but it goes down much easier and richer than it should. Notes of cherry and chocolate accompany the rye spice with a forward finish. Impressions: heck yeah. I'm big into rye right now, so that may be influencing my palate, but this is a nice balanced pour. Looking forward to another one.59.0 USD per Bottle -
In a blind taste, I was convinced this had a sherry cask finish. There is a huge overarching fruitiness to the nose and taste. Rich and full flavored with additional hits of vanilla, and a caramel brown sugar sweetness. A little bite on the back end. Finish: a lingering warmth that hints at spice. Impressions: this is my favorite regular line offering from Woodford. The double oaking adds needed depth and character with only a little extra bump in price. Definitely worth keeping in the rotation.

Lucky enough to find this at a random stop at our local store. Picked up immediately despite some hit and miss with other Jefferson lines. Nose: a light nose... Maybe pit fruits? Apricot and vanilla. Sweet and approachable. Taste: the cognac makes an impact. Gives it a nuttiness reminiscent of a chestnut cask. I still get the apricot vibe, with just a hint of that chocolate others are picking up. Beautiful mouthcoat and a full rich creamy profile more typical to a bourbon than a rye. Finish: slight tingle on the tongue. Medium finish that lingers, but no burn. Impressions: Wow. I like this a lot. I think the balance of flavors are spot on. The rye spice is there (which I prefer), but it's not the only note. It sips like a high end whiskey to me, and for $60 is a welcome bottle. I would buy it again without hesitation if I found it.

Nose: spice, caramel Taste: brown sugar, caramel, spice and hint of banana/apple fruitiness Finish: thin, but with a little lingering heat. I get a much spicier note than other reviewers on first sip. But as I get further into the pour, it warms my throat and mellows down to deep baking flavors and a brown sugar, toffee, nuttiness that's very pleasing.

Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 27, 2021 (edited April 18, 2021)Nose: floral, vanilla, apple, baking. Taste: good tongue coat and fullness, spices like anise and a touch of pepper. Smooth, with a slight burn on the back of the mouth (but not reaching the throat) at the finish. Overall impression: This is a simple, straightforward flavor that I can enjoy no matter what my mood. I think this is one of my "go-to" whiskeys when nothing else is sitting quite right. Some days you don't want to deal with the bitey spices or complex flavors. I really enjoy this whiskey and try to keep a bottle on hand. -
Cinnamon red hots through and through. Red hots on the nose, red hots on the front, red hots in the back. If I really reach, i can get some vanilla and oak. Simple, but not really offensive for it. I like it. Got it on sale for $40 and would probably buy again (on sale) for it's different flavor profile.

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed March 14, 2021This is an unusual sip! Nose is super sweet. Smells of honey and caramel cream. The taste is sweet like candy with a backfill of young scotch. Very slight tongue burn on the end with notes of apple and honey. I dig it. It's very different than our usual bourbon rotation (as it should be since it's not bourbon), but not as in your face as heavy peated scotch or smoky texas offerings.
