The Irishman 12 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited February 24, 2018)It's always nice to come across a great Irish whiskey. This one doesn't disappoint. The nose is a little bit honey and a whole lot of peaches, like a nice summer iced tea. The palate is reminiscent of a bourbon, with oak and vanilla really coming through. The finish is quite satisfying if a tad short. I recommend. -
Craigellachie 13 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited January 12, 2018)Really delicious scotch - barley and brown sugar with a touch of unripe apples. There's also nutmeg to the palate. I can see myself buying a bottle. -
Peated and medicinal, llmost like opening a box of Band-Aids - that smell of rubber is very pronounced on the nose. I don't dislike it, but I can't say I'm a fan either... unless I'm having a medical emergency. There's honey and clearly phenolic compounds that interact like two children do: one minute they're playing well together and the next minute they're at each other's throat. I'm not sure how I feel about it. However, the finish is where this whisky really shines, with licorice and sherry carrying a fairly long finish.

Glencadam 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited December 13, 2017)A surprising nose, and probably a combination of aromas I've never come across before. It's like Christmas spice cake with chopped candied fruits - I very much enjoy it. The palate is incredibly smooth, and a delight, with a generous dose of almonds. The finish is were things regretfully veer off, with a certain bitterness no amount of water can tame. It's too bad... Still I recommend trying. -
Tomatin 14 Year Port Casks
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited September 13, 2017)Honeycomb to the nose, with a floral note that is reminiscent of chamomile - just wonderful. The toasted barley comes through on the palate, with walnuts and wood spices for good measure. The finish is quite short and at times bitter , but I won't complain a great deal. Honestly, I can't for the life of me tell that this was matured in port casks. Overall it's alright. -
Mannochmore 12 Year Flora & Fauna
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed August 12, 2017 (edited August 13, 2017)An underperforming nose, with hints of white glue, light charred wood and honey - there's also a delicate sweetness that can pass for orchard fruit, but it's barely there. The palate on the other hand is for the most part unpleasant; bitter and smoked wood spices and hazelnut. The finish… an evening's regret. -
Old Forester Classic 86 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 28, 2017 (edited September 1, 2017)Not a bad bourbon - it's alright. The nose is straightforward and pleasant, if a little light: charred oak and fruits (hard to discern which one). The palate has vanilla and nutmeg, but it mostly just tastes of makeup (which of course also raises the question of how I know what makeup tastes like, but that's another story). The finish is laughably short and flat. Cheers! -
Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask 10 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed July 26, 2017 (edited August 31, 2017)Wow this is great stuff! You knock two years and you add chardonnay casks, and the final product is so much better than the 12-year-old expression. This was a treat: some lemon, honey and flowers to the nose, with a palate that has the faintest hint of smoke and honey. And the finish it's remarkably complex and long for such a young whisky. If you're reading this review while staring at the bottle on the shelf of your local liquor store: buy it! You'll thank me later. -
There's not a whole lot more that I can add that hasn't already been shared here by others. The nose is delicious with notes of cherries and charred oak. The palate is on the other hand disappointing, with a bitterness there's no way to get around, though the notes of leather and cinnamon are a little redeeming. The finish is alright. There are far better bourbons out there.

Let me just start off by noting that three of the previous seven notes written by people for this bottling are actually for the 18-year-old, which means the user rating average here is inaccurate. That said, I gave the 18-year-old three stars, and I have in general never enjoyed Aberfeldy whiskies. This one is no exception. In fact it's outright bad, which to my defense isn't a prejudice against this distillery since every single Aberfeldy I've ever tried with the exception of the 12 was by blind tasting. This 16-year-old is just not good! It started off well, with the nose having pleasant hints of citrus, oak and honeycomb. The mouth and finish though... the devil distilled this.
