I only review whiskies, and I try to keep it short and sweet.... and backlogged with nearly 450 reviews I have yet to post on the app. 🤦🏽♂️
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt (Discontinued)
Peated Blended Malt — JapanReviewed September 6, 2016Light and medicinal, with smoke at the nose. The palate is light and largely forgettable. Ultimately it's not a good whisky.
Johnnie Walker Black Label
Peated Blend — ScotlandReviewed September 6, 2016Water is your best friend here - this is a whisky that comes to life with a few drops of water. The nose is obviously peated, and lacks further complexity after that. In juxtaposition the palate is actually light, and spicy. The overall effect is a drink that lacks finesse yet holds onto its own. Not bad.
Jameson Irish Whiskey
Blended — IrelandReviewed September 6, 2016Distilled gasoline, pure and simple! The nose has hints of smoked fish (how attractive is that), with a touch of hay. It's plain awful.
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USAReviewed September 6, 2016In a blind test this whisky was surprisingly decent. The corn really comes through at the nose, with almost hints of apples and bananas (quite fruity). The oak's vanillin and flavor also add complexity. Really not bad.
Canadian Club Classic 12 Year
Canadian — CanadaReviewed September 6, 2016Woodsy with hints of caramel at the nose. The palate is a little fruity while the finish falls flat. It's barely drinkable.
Glenkinchie 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, ScotlandReviewed September 2, 2016Light and floral, with spice towards the end. Strong nose and palate, but a flat finish. Decent enough whisky, but certainly not a candidate for a daily dram.
Tobermory 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, ScotlandReviewed September 1, 2016Complex, and quite pleasant. To the eye it's peculiarly yellow, which is expected considering it's only been in cask for 10 years, though also pleasant to know it probably lacks E150 coloring. The nose and palate are herbal, like a backyard garden, with the tongue occasionally experiencing a touch of lemon. The finish is a little short and leaves wanting. Overall a fairly-balanced whiskey, and certainly delicious for the affordable price.
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed August 31, 2016A PHENOMENAL whisky, well-balanced with a spicy yet smooth finish. The nose underperforms just a tad, but the palate has a nice mouthfeel, with American oak getting the breakout role. Truly well crafted.
Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, ScotlandReviewed August 26, 2016Meh. Good whisky for the smelling and tasting impaired.
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed August 17, 2016Delicious, from beginning to end. The nose has hints of vanilla and citrus, the palate is similar with the addition of oak and sweetness, the body is almost syrupy, and the finish pleasant. Caramel is also present throughout in the absence of water (though you need plenty at 100 proof).
