Howler Head Monkey Spirit
Flavored Whiskey — North Charleston, South Carolina, USA
Reviewed August 28, 2023 (edited August 30, 2023)Why am I drinking this? Oh yeah… I got a free sample. On the nose… Yep. There it is. Smells like probably a young bourbon that is masked with a candy banana scent. Like banana runts. On the pallete… it’s banana up front and then banana at the end. Lol. It’s pretty much one note, but there is this artificial sweetness that permeates. Makes it feel a little bit thick, kind of like Screwball but more artificial tasting. This is not something I likely would want to return to unless there happens to be a cocktail that a banana spirit with somehow work well inside of. -
Nose: Lots of syrupy corn sweetness, dark cherries, and an unusual smoke. Palette: Much drier than the nose. Turns to smoke, ash, and leather. Nice and thick. Finish: Releases a little bit of sweetness at the end again while the smoke also lingers. High and low notes at the same time. Super interesting and a very unique and fun whiskey to sip on. I could return to this one often.

Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed November 7, 2021 (edited April 13, 2022)Nose: Ethanol, honey, citrus, bright fruits. Palette: The honey subsides, followed by rye spice and a bitter oily texture. Drier than expected. Finish: Same as the palette. It’s balanced, but probably too much for my taste. -
Smooth Ambler Contradiction Rye
Rye — West Virginia , USA
Reviewed September 16, 2021 (edited November 2, 2021)Yum! On the nose, I get many traditional rye notes, but then I pick up “pomegranate.” On the pallet, it is sweet, very approachable, and a little spicy, but not as spicy as many ryes can get. The finish begins with barrel space and then turns dry, but a candy sweetness lingers after.
