Tastes

This bottle has been open for about a month now, but hasn't changed dramatically. The nose is stronger than expected from a 90 proofer. Sweet caramel and butterscotch, but definitely some heat in there. Palate is nice and smooth with some fruity notes added to the caramel from the nose. Thankfully, the heat from the nose didn't carry through. Finish is a little lacking, but it's hard to complain for a $23, 90 proof bourbon.

This high rye bourbon gives a lot of flavors in a relatively weak nose. Spicy cinnamon and an interesting floral note compliment the classic bourbon caramel. Mouth feel is a little hotter than expected. If you like bourbons with a little rye kick, pour this over a big ice cube and sip it slowly. Comparable to OF 100 or WT 101.

Grainy nose hides the higher proof. I'm sipping with an ice cube but it hardly needs it. Good bourbon, but not great. Probably worth the money to try if you like Bulleit, but there is a certain oat flavor that I don't love. I think I could pick this flavor out of regular bulleit, but it's easier to forgive at that price point.

Obvious proof on the nose. Sweet aged oak and maybe a bit of banana. So many flavors in this sip. Vanilla, fruit, that oak, and something a little spicier. Cinnamon? Long, but not uncomfortable finish accentuates some of those flavors and mutes others. This is in my top 3 bottles under $25.

You know it's going to be smooth right from the nose. Oak bomb. And something sweet. Cherry? Smooth mouth feel and a full, but still smooth finish. Fruits overpower the oak in the finish.

Big fan of Heaven Hill products like Elijah Craig and Evan Williams SiB, so I had to try this wheater. I'm glad I did. Dark fruit on the nose. First sip was a little spicey, but it's opening up. Would be great with a tiny ice cube or in a glass with frozen fruit. I'll leave another note when I do a Heaven Hill taste test.

Did a side-by-side with Bulleit Rye. I like the higher proof and classic OF complexity. Both great value ryes, but this one is nice enough neat that I'd almost feel bad making a cocktail with it.

Easy sippin rye. Great for cocktails. Or as a low proof rye to offer someone new to drinking whiskey neat. There are definitely more complex ryes out there, but this and it's bourbon brother are smooth, sweet sippers.

Eh... I'll take the 10 year over this for a few bucks less. It's good bourbon, but just not doing it for me.

Everyone says 1920 is better, but I had to give the 1910 a shot. Everyone was right 🤣 It's a fine whiskey with surprising complexity and finish for the low proof. The brown sugar and candied apple finish is the best part of this one. But for nearly the same cost, I'm taking 1920 every time. I'll post again if this one opens up after the neck pour and also plan to blend some '1915' eventually.
