Redwood Empire Lost Monarch Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed January 15, 2023 (edited January 16, 2023)Nose is herbal and fruity with some rye notes. Taste comes in strongly of rye, I wouldn’t have thought there was bourbon in this mix with how strong the rye is. It’s sweet and fruity with some maple notes along with the rye. There are some slices to it as well, maybe some cinnamon. The finish is medium length. It’s good but the maple rye flavor is a little out of balance for me. -
Old Elk Straight Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — Colorado , USA
Reviewed January 13, 2023 (edited January 16, 2023)Floral, toffee, caramel and vanilla nose. Comes in very smooth, creamy and sweet. I can definitely taste the wheat which isn’t overpowering and is nicely balanced by the sweetness. It’s quite unique and I really like the flavors this mash bill produced. It’s got a nice thick mouthfeel and medium finish. Very enjoyable overall. -

Old Elk Infinity Blend (2022 Release)
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed January 7, 2023 (edited January 16, 2023)Very interesting blend. Rich flavors, definitely notice the wheat notes, a little bit of pine, and some sweetness to it but a lot of spice too. Drinks slightly hot but very enjoyable. -
Laphroaig Càirdeas 2020 Port & Wine Casks
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 3, 2023 (edited January 16, 2023)Very smoky and peaty as Laphroaig is, but not harsh like the standard 10 year is for me. Burnt popcorn is what this tastes like with some smoke thrown in. You get a bit of the port and wine towards the middle but it’s a very subtle addition for me. It’s a stand out dram if you want that “in your face” smoke but in a balanced and tasty way. -
Nose has citrus up front with some wheat notes and vanilla. Taste is very smooth and balanced. There's vanilla, caramel, oak, with some citrus or cherry as well. It moves into a little bit of spice with a short finish. It's a bit thinner and lighter than some. Overall very smooth and enjoyable all the way through.
