Clynelish 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 15, 2016 (edited December 29, 2016)I hoped this would be my unsung hero, my hidden gem, the story of a diamond in the rough first discovered at the northern shores of Scotland. It wasn't. For a while I thought it was: it smells soft like creme brûlée, very promising. The taste however, is criminally unremarkable, like sour apples, and it has a very hot and peppery finish. Onwards, I suppose. -
Had this at a small bar in Kintain, Scotland, where the sun lit up a beautiful lake as it settled. The bottle makes you want to like this whisky, and I do! The smell is very soft, but the palate is very salty! When accustomed to the saltiness though, I get walnuts, salted caramel, and a dry and pleasant finish with a tiniest whiff of smoke.
