Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 28, 2022 (edited April 21, 2022)Color: Amber / Gold Nose: Very Sweet | Floral | Herbal | Medicinal| Anise Incredibly unique nose even for rye. Like nothing else. Very potent floral and herbal scents but not overpowering the whisky. Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Tropical fruits, bananas, and with a continued botanical background. Medicinal but not off-putting like fake cherry syrup. Very hard for me to describe but overall incredibly favorable and well balanced. A unique pour. Finish: Little to no heat. The palate remains, leaving you with a wonderfully long, floral finish. -
Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 28, 2022 (edited April 9, 2022)Color: Tawny Nose: Vanilla | Caramel | Orange Zest Mild nose. Slight amount of heat but not overpowering. Palate: Medium to light mouthfeel. Nothing stands out in the plus or minus column. Continued theme of vanilla and caramel with slight citrus from the nose. Slightly smokey. Very little heat. Very approachable and has no need for ice. Does not pack a punch like a full-proof pour but also does not feel young or unrounded. Finish: Does not have a lingering finish. Escalates in heat, but subtle, with notes of black pepper and remnants of vanilla and caramel from the palate. -
Color: Auburn / Chestnut Nose: Peanuts | Bananas | Vanilla A very fragrant and pleasing nose that is very inviting. Palate: Medium, oily mouthfeel. Hints of peanuts, spice, black pepper, oak, and vanilla. The banana from the nose doesn’t come through. Not heat until the finish. Finish: The heat builds throughout the finish but is never overpowering. Still appreciable hints of oak, vanilla, and peanut.

Reviewed November 22, 2021 (edited November 23, 2021)Color: Amber Nose: Caramel | Toffee | Orange Zest | Citrus | Ethanol but no unpleasant Powerful nose that is very inviting. Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Grain and spice dominate the initial palate that creeps out from behind the burn. More subtle notes of orange citrus, leather, smoke, and tobacco. That palate continues to develop well into the finish. Finish: You feel the heat but it quickly dissipates into a sweet, long finish. Notes of maple syrup and caramel apples with the orange zest remaining. -

Buffalo Trace Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 2, 2021 (edited September 13, 2021)Color: Chestnut / Tawny Nose: Oak | Vanilla | Hint of Red Fruit (Cherry/Strawberry) | Light Ethanol Very pleasant and inviting nose despite an overall backing of ethanol. Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Very smooth start with no traces of ethanol out of the gate. Well rounded with hints of oak, vanilla, and a certain sweetness, perhaps molasses. The sweetness is subtle but reminds me a little of the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked but extremely toned down. Finish: A very slight ethanol burn comes at the very end of the palate and last through the finish but not overwhelming. The notes experienced on the palate continue through the finish making it overall pleasant. -
Color: Mahogany Nose: A very sweet nose. The oak certainly comes through with hints of vanilla, maple syrup, and brown sugar. Palate: Medium, velvety mouthfeel. The nose is very well represented on the palate with the same wonderfully sweet characteristics of oak, vanilla, and syrup. Not at all cloyingly sweet. Little to no ethanol burn. Finish: A subtle sweetness lingers throughout the finish but develops more into a typical bourbon profile. The okay and vanilla remain present and almost no heat comes through leaving you with a very approachable finish. The finish is long and mellow.

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 17, 2021 (edited July 3, 2021)Color: Tawny / Auburn Nose: Wonderfully, fragrant nose. Slight ethanol but not at all overpowering. Oak, banana, caramelized sugar and a slight, but noticeable, tropical fruit note. Palate: Light to medium mouthfeel. Bold and upfront with powerful hints of char and roasted chestnuts. The ethanol is strong at first but quickly settles out leaving you with the more nuanced flavors of chocolate and banana. Finish: Long, pleasing finish that doesn’t evolve or diminish over time. The banana notes tend to stick with the finish and slightly overpower the other notes of chocolate and chestnut. -
Color: Rich Gold / Burnt Amber Nose: Brown Sugar | Vanilla | Caramel | Slight Ethanol Very approachable nose. Sweet with very mild ethanol. Smells inviting and well-rounded. Aromatic for such a low proof. Not what I was expecting. Palate: Light, flabby mouthfeel. Smooth with only a slight burn at the end. Not much there. Notes of toffee, pecans, and oak with little to no sweetness perceived on the nose. Finish: Overall short with little burn. Doesn’t leave you with much, plus or minus.
