Smells like a charred log soaked in a bog. Palate has a saltiness. Has a bitter finish with medicinal notes. I don’t love this. Adding water brings out a salty sweetness but overall this isn’t quite my thing. I know it’s a blasphemous thing to say but I might like the Select better. This is just too weird for me. It’s so astringent and tastes like bandaids.

Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 27, 2019 (edited April 26, 2019)Nose of maple bars and werthers original. Mouthfeel is vapor like with complex doughnut notes. The finish is super long with all kids of flavors I’m not good enough to pick out. Starts with werthers then goes toward apple maybe and some sort of warm spices. Man idk how to describe it but it’s good af. Added a little water and it tastes like candied walnuts. -
Nose of gingerbread cookies. Thick mouthfeel. Molasses on the palate. A slight oak bitterness but it’s welcome. So many dessert spice notes. A little water makes the dessert notes shine. My favorite way to enjoy this is with a big cube. The gingerbread cookie notes really come out. At the price you can’t beat this. I enjoy this more than bottles I’ve spent $40 on.25.0 USD per Bottle

Spiced cookies and butter on the nose. Palate is hot and has a cherry and cinnamon thing going on. There’s some bitterness on the finish. This may be more complex than the 101 but to me the 101 is more cohesive. I don’t think this is worth the extra money. A little water bring out a buttery note. Even with a good amount of water that heat is intense.40.0 USD per Bottle

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 15, 2019 (edited May 3, 2019)Good amount of alcohol on the nose. Get a whif of bready dessert (like coffee cake) through the alcohol. Get what reminds me of dried blueberries and nuts on the palate. Also some pralines. The alcohol warmth on the palate is perfect. The finish is quite long with toffee, dried fruit, peppery spice, all sorts of things I’m not good enough to pick out. This is really good!37.0 USD per Bottle -
Even though it’s a wheat whiskey I get very sweet caramel corn on the nose. Palate is medium bodied, hot, and full of sugar. Getting some very sweet toffee toward the end. Most of the notes remind me of shitty corporate candy. Some water brings out nougat flavors and maybe fruit cake. Not a huge fan of the sugary shitty candy notes.28.0 USD per Bottle
