Kilkerran 12 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed August 27, 2019 (edited October 26, 2019)A fantastically well balanced dram. It's pretty sensational... Tons of coastal saltiness, some lovely seaweed, vanilla and malty sweetness, and loads of stuff I've missed. As a peppery (but not alcoholic) finish, with more of that mouth-watering salt. Will be getting a bottle of this for sure... -
There's lots of flavour packed in here, made into an interesting mix of Bourbon and malt styles. It's got the malty texture, cereal sweetness, and bits of brine from the malt, and lots of oak from the more American style. Unique! Some water brought out tons of tabacco and oak bitters for me. Not my favorite malt style, but it's good.

Very complex. A little water tempers the alcohol and brings out more rich sugars and berry notes. The herbaceous finish is still there, though softer. Smoke seems to have disappeared entirely. Even more water brings it into Speyside malt territory, with lighter fruits such as apple and pear, and some honey and flowers. The herbal finish has been replaced with fruits and white wine
