Connemara Original Peated Single Malt
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed December 7, 2023 (edited December 8, 2023)Nose: peat, charred oak, honey, mild floral elements. Palate: peat, a mild burn, very slight fruit, complexity is a little lower due to proof. Some malt sweetness. Very slight honey. A little bit of salinity? Finish: mild phenols, a little astringent. Not incredibly long but does linger. -
Nose: orange, honey, the slightest hint of brine and smoke theres almost a buttered popcorn note. Strawberry, a bit of vanilla. Mild raisin/date/prune. I can kind of see the fresh cut grass/hay notes some mention, but they might be muted as this bottle has been nearly empty for a while. Citrus, particularly lemon, comes out more and more as you go. Palate: earthy peat and smokiness are present but as everyone mentions they arent the stars of the show. Honey, caramel. Fruity with a briny zing. Finish: begins with a chewy malt note, full mouthfeel fades into apple and honeyed pear. Floral notes here too, apple blossom? A mild minerality.

Laphroaig PX Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 30, 2023 (edited December 1, 2023)Color keeps getting browner 😔 miss the pinot noir garnet red color from when i first popped this open. Nose: peat reek, earthy dank fruity notes, some woodiness. Some mildly sweet sherry. Getting some dark cherry here too the more it rests and the more I sip Palate: peat is still prominent, fruitiness pops here still. Sherry influence brings a sweetness that's not sickly. Brambly. Some oceanic salinity. A hint of vanilla. Some creosote. Currant and cherry Finish: starts with a mild vanilla, lingering medicinal phenols, earthy notes. Barrel tannin. -
Ardbeg Auriverdes
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 26, 2023 (edited November 29, 2023)One final pour from John, miss you buddy This last pour has been sitting at the bottom of the bottle for a while now so who knows the effects, but were drinking to a friend here so who really cares! Nose: definitely getting the classic smoky ardbeg peat. Some citrus. Mocha comes put a tad once you get it in your mouth. Palate: chocolate and coffee are prominent here. Some smoky bacon. Salt air and seaweed. Smooth for the proof though it might have lost some potency. Fruity malt notes here too, blackcurrant? Finish: begins with a dark chocolate, fades to a salt air. Creamy Vanilla and smoke. Fades to a lingering cottonmouth feeling with some phenols and oak tanins sitting on the tongue.
