McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt
American Single Malt — Oregon, USA
Reviewed May 11, 2023 (edited May 12, 2023)Nose: peat, some slight bacon fat. Palate: less viscous than the cask strength. Peat is balanced well with the malt notes. Has mild salinity, a strong full mouthfeel. there's some more sweetness here. This is a much more well rounded expression (at least compared to the cask strength from Tuesday). Actually love this. Some small notes of brown sugar. There's some mild salinty, and a tiny bit of meatyness à la ardbeg Finish: some barrel char, wood tanin, mild peat phenols. -
McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt Single Barrel (1/9/20)
American Single Malt — Oregon , USA
Reviewed May 9, 2023 (edited May 11, 2023)8/13/21. 55.95% ABV; 111.9 proof; Barrel 708 Nose: initially a salty buttery popcorn, some peat, salted caramel. Maybe a tiny hint of plum or dark fruits. Palate: initial hit is a mix of smoke, sweetness, and wood. Does have a solid viscosity. Peat comes out more as you sip, its a strong earthy note. Peat here, while strong, is a very different experience from islay peat. This is a distinctively stronger decomposition notes. Adding a decent amount of water tones down some of the harsher peat decay and brings out the barrel and malt notes more. Definitely get more caramel, toffee, and butterscotch here. And a tinge of something brighter, not quite a citrus but something mildly floral. Finish: woody and peat oily. Woodier once water is added -
Color: looks like a burgandy or pinot noir. Nose: complex, peat smoke hits first. Followed by a sherry fruit note. Dried fruit, raisin/cranberry. Maybe a hint of strawberry? Palate: this is beautiful, sherry hits big and strong, a beautiful fruitiness that gently gives way to classic Laphroaig notes. Some strong woodiness, a decent peatiness. Its sweet. Sherry is an earthy character. Finish: some wood tanin, and dried fruit.100.0 USD per Bottle

Medicinal. Palate: full of energy. Strong vegetal peat notes that blend into a smokiness, the peat feels more intense than in the 10. A bit Earthy. There is some mild caramel, brown sugar, and malt sweetness, but definitely sits back a bit. Finish: peat phenols and a hint of sugar. Some malt chewiness and some rubber.90.0 USD per Bottle -
