Knob Creek Limited Edition 2001
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 7, 2017 (edited April 19, 2019)TIP / ALTERNATIVE: Go for the higher 120 proof 13yo Single Barrel instead for just $40. At $40, it was a much better deal and arguable the better bourbon, with the higher proof of the Knob Creek Single Barrel *SELECT* (selected by Liquor Mart Whittier in my case) which was selected from one of the 13yo barrels, as many of the barrel select versions are, clocking in at just 1 year under the 14yo Knob Creek 2001, while retaining the higher 120 instead of 100 proof, and being Single Barrel instead of Small Batch like the 2001! At times I even prefer it over my all-time-favorite Booker's Bluegrass, when both brought down to around the same proof with a few drops of Kentucky Limestone water. Knob Select can be found at quite a few places via 1000Corks.com, but just be sure to call to confirm the barrel age if not stated on the website. -
Maker's Mark 46 French Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 3, 2017 (edited January 24, 2019)HUGE difference, MUCH better than standard Maker's Mark - less harsh, more complex and slightly less dry. Where I rank standard Maker's Mark as least favorite whiskey (5th to last of ~70), Maker's 46 is top shelf, at #14, and preferred over even Maker's Mark Cask Strength and Old Weller Antique 107. I would absolutely love to try Maker's Mark 46 Cask Strength - the best of both worlds - but it can only be found at the Maker's Mark gift shop.
