Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 12, 2020Nose: Sweet Tropical Fruit with a Candied Baking. Light Vanilla. Spice. Palate: Fruit Cocktail Cotton Candy Finish: Oak Spice. Orange Zest. Sweet Honey Dew. Nose is quite nice. Smells and tastes like a sweet bomb. Has fruity floral notes from start to finish in the taste and scent. I can understand the comparison to a muted Blanton's. Not nearly as spicy as its rye mash bill family. -
Nose: Right away Vanilla Frosting. Little bit of Baking Spice. Orange Zest Sassafras, Sarsaparilla, Wintergreen Palate: Bright Citrus-Orange Heaven Hill Peanut Dark Honey Heath Bar Mild Oily Butter coats your mouth Finish: Barrel Char leaves a little Smokiness along with a slight unexpected Sea Brine. Lingering Tannins continue to bring a hot Cinnamon, Black Pepper and Anise This was a really great pour, but the price is inflated. It's a lower proof, but Evan Williams Single Barrel has pretty much all the same high rye mash spice notes. I'd like to do a whiskey war between those two and Evan Williams BiB. I bet the EWs easily hang especially at McKenna's price point.

Nose: Medicinal. Seaweed. Briney Sea Salt and faint Milk Chocolate Powdered Cocoa. Soft Strawberry Water and Lemongrass Palate: Faint Toasted Cinnamon Sugared on Angel Food Cake Finish: Cinnamon quickly turns to Pepper and Brine. Mild Peat leaves you with a Smoked Ham. I'll have to try the 10 year 😕

Nose: Suprising Ethanol to begin. Sweeter Oak Char and Toasted Maple Pecans. Apples rolled in Cinnamon Sugar and Vanilla. Palate: Dark Berries and Orange Zest. Some Buttery Cream finishes off Toasted Waffles Finish: Medicinal Licorice lingers past a Leather note. Oak and Buttered Toast with light Raspberry and Strawberry Jams that suddenly appeared I don't know where this 90 proof found a nose punch, but after a drop or two of water, this dram opened up tremendously. Middle of the bottle was way more complex and pleasant than Its predecessors. I paid $40/bottle last year for 2. The price I heard these have gone to are unfortunate and ridiculous. No way will I pay anything close to it. It's not Pappy 12 and even then. It's a really good Wheated bourbon, but Sazerac needs to stop coin shaving their faithful customers' purchasing power of their products. Stop the Free Market schemes.40.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: Sweet Vanilla Frosting. Fresh Flowers and the Salty Sea Air blowing a dwindled Campfire your direction. Cereal and Light Stone Fruits; Peaches and Apricots. Peppery Grass Palate: Raisin Cinnamon Bread. Melted Butterscotch and Red Hots Candies. Cantaloupe. Medical Honey Finish: Sea Brine. Cigar Tobacco lingers with a Honey Dew Melon, Dry Leather Oils and Campfire Smoke brings back Toasted Marshmallows.51.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: Red Apple Peel. Brown Sugar dusted Corn Flakes. Finishes with Spearmint Palate: Thin Body. Spicy Oak, Black Pepper. Candied Cherry Ethanol and Toasted Almonds coated in Dark Toffee. Finish: Black Pepper continues with Dry Oak and mild Tobacco. Mint and Sweet Grass rounds off the finish across the tongue. Overall: Mash Bill 1 at work. Complex, spicey, and mildly sweet, yet THIN. Interesting how close and yet so different B.T. is from the rest of its relatives.28.0 USD per Bottle
