Balvenie Single Barrel 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 18, 2020 (edited May 15, 2020)Nose: Astringent Woodiness, but full of light honey, grape seed, and caramel. Forward is Charred Chocolate and Toffee. Light Leathery Vanilla notes in the... Finish: with Toasted Almond and Spiced Burnt Coffee. Salty Nuttiness The Doublewood is better at the price point. -
Nose: ALL leather and Sweet Fresh Mowed lawn. Like Opening Day on the South Side while the Old Man smoked his pipe. Forward: Coconut Water. Earthy, Grassy. Reminds me of Bailing Hay w/o the hangover. Brite. Finish: Spearmint and a dash of Pepper. I would not buy a bottle, but I'm glad I tried it. It's unique. Mellow throughout, delicate upfront, with a little rye chew at the end.

Bready Pudding Finish- Soft Sweetness of Dark Stone Fruit and Cacao Nib over slight Char Spice. I love this Speyside, especially for the price point. It's hard to do better than this as an approachable and yet still complex Scotch. -
