Not really into clear liquor, but bought this as an experiment with charred oak barrel aging spirals. I was pleasantly surprised at the smoothness of this spirit. It is not one that I would drink on a regular basis, but wouldn’t turn it down if offered. The barrel aging spirals produced better results here than with the rum. They made this low end silver tequila taste more like a low end reposada.14.99 USD per Bottle

My first US produced rum, and I was a little disappointed to find a screw cap. The rum is a lovely dark color, with strong notes of vanilla on the nose. On the palate the vanilla notes continue, but with a definite alcohol warmth. This is almost like drinking sweetened vanilla extract. Though not unpleasant, it is definitely overpriced.37.99 USD per Bottle

Not really into clear liquor; but received this as a gift, along with some barrel aging spirals. Decided to taste test it prior to adding the wood. This isn’t bad neat, in fact it is quite drinkable. Of course, it would be better as a mixer. After leaving the aging spiral in for two weeks there was little change except the alcohol burn was slightly intensified.14.99 USD per Bottle

Ron Zacapa 23 Sistema Solera Rum
Aged Rum — Guatemala
Reviewed June 6, 2020 (edited August 14, 2020)Very sweet, with candy notes and a pleasant warmth. Reasonably priced for a rum of this age. Will revisit this one, but it won’t replace Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 as my go to rum.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Pusser's Rum Original Admiralty Blend (Blue Label)
Navy Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed May 23, 2020Demerara rum from Guyana, bottled at 42% ABV. Nose is demerara sugar and dark fruit. Those notes continue on the palate with a hint of citrus and a pleasant warmth. There are hogo hints, but not as pronounced, nor as pleasurable, as Jamaican(Appleton Estate)rums.24.99 USD per Bottle -
Not nearly as sweet as most aged rums, and more bourbon-like in appearance. Dark fruit and hazelnut, on the nose; with a little toffee sweetness on the palate. Really more whiskey-like than I expected, but not unpleasantly so. Not cheap, but reasonable for an 18 year old blend. Won’t surpass Appleton Estate Rare Blend as my favorite sipping rum, but one I definitely intend to revisit once in a while.42.99 USD per Bottle
