William Heavenhill 17 Year Small Batch (10th Edition)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 4, 2024 (edited June 6, 2024)The nose is strong with charred oak, cherries, dried flowers, leather, vanilla and smoke. It is rather intense and full, showing every bit of its age. It is truly something to get lost in. The palate is very dry yet rich, coating the mouth in a strong mix of rye and baking spices, dark chocolate, oak and vanilla. The flavor is quite intense yet chewy, and very spice forward. This might actually be a good example of a whiskey that would benefit from being at a lower proof, as there are faint hints of nuanced flavor that are on the verge of coming out. The medium finish is long, spicy and chewy. It all fades away surprisingly quick, but is highly memorable. At a lower proof, this would be dessert. Still absolutely incredibly. -
Elijah Craig Single Barrel (All Star Wine & Spirits)
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed June 4, 2024 (edited June 6, 2024)The nose is soft with ripe fruit, touches of oak and hints of brown sugar, dried flowers with a little bit of vanilla, all rounds it out. The palate is pretty typical Elijah Craig, though it has an extra burst of dried flowers, rice spice in touches of fresh fruit giving it a bit of sweetness. In the background, is oak and vanilla, with a hint of brown sugar. It's pretty simple, as is the nature of Elijah craig. But what makes it so nice is how much full flavor you can get in such a simple and inexpensive whiskey. The finish is medium long and chewy with a lingering rice spice, while dried flowers, ripe fruit and vanilla leave you with a wonderful freshness. -
Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series 2023 BEP
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 27, 2024 (edited May 30, 2024)The nose is a burst of sweet oak, caramel, dark chocolate, a bit of heat and touches of ripe fruit that are a hallmark of wheated bourbon. This is vastly different from the standard Maker's Mark profile, for what it is it comes across as a dessert. The palate is gentle, rich, somewhat oily and full of oak and caramel. Brown sugar cascades through the mouth, that is to say in a very gentle and balanced amount. It is slightly chewy, which helps to bring out the dark chocolate. There are faint touches of ripe fruit in the background, however is not prominent nor does it need to be. Everything you taste is in a very harmonious balance and doesn't require much else. The finish however, is only medium at best. It is a little too short for what the rest of the experience has offered. However, a mix of all the flavors continue to mingle in the mouth, still offering some chewiness as it all fades. The finish while a bit of a let down, doesn't take away from how delicious this is. This is a great combination of wood finishing and definite hit. -
Whiskey Del Bac Classic
American Single Malt — Arizona, USA
Reviewed May 27, 2024 (edited May 28, 2024)The nose is smooth with barley, straw, leather, smoke and hints of ripe fruit. It's fairly gentle but very enjoyable. The palate is very easy going and tastes just like it smells. Barely is up front with a touch of honey and straw, as smoke and leather round it out over a wave of ripe fruit. The finish is medium with a bit of a chew as notes of barely and fruit linger in the mouth. -
The palate is immediately hot with spice, dry oak and touches of ripe fruit that are a hallmark of wheatex bourbons. Touches of creme brulee are in the background, getting hint of some smoothness. Brown sugar and touches of leather round out the nose. The palate is somewhat dry yet rich and fairly quickly coats the entire mouth. Oak, brown sugar and a bit of baking spice fill the mouth, and offers some chewiness. There are some touches of ripe fruit however, Larceny has never exactly been known for that. For being barrel-proof it is not overwhelmingly intense. It is perfectly easy to sit on if you are a fan of having a bit of heat in your whiskey. The finish is long and slightly hot, has notes of creme brulee swirl around as you chew, coming out at the very end of your sip. There is a lingering ookiness that ever so slowly fades. The notes you get on the finish definitely last you until your next sip. This is a very full and simple, yet flavorful whiskey.

Starlight Single Barrel Huber's Old Rickhouse Rye Finished in Cognac Barrels (Roc Elite barrel no 22-2431-1)
Rye — Indiana , USA
Reviewed April 25, 2024The nose is a burst of cognac with charred oak and vanilla, with hints of spearmint and fruity rye. It is very fresh and tantalizing. The fullness is off the charts given the relatively young age of this whiskey, really bringing you in to taste it. The palate is rich and full, yet dry and chewy. Cognac is upfront along with a burst of pepper, fruit and floral rye. The initial tasting is very intense yet gives way to oak and vanilla to smooth things out on the back end. The flavors are incredibly distinct and powerful, in perfect proportions. The finish is long and sweet with cognac, oak and vanilla swirl around in the background as flavor clings to all corners of the mouth. The intensity of how simple this is, is what makes it remarkable. The perfect blend of cognac and rye and a real treat, just like a dessert. -
The nose is soft with charred oak, vanilla, fresh fruit and just the slightest bit of smoke. Its very gentle, much softer than you would expect for six years and 100 proof. It is somewhat inviting however. The palate starts with a slight bite of baking spices, giving way to some dryness. Chewy oak and vanilla follow with faint touches fresh fruit offering a sweet freshness. It is indeed rather simple, yet very attractive in how easy it is to drink. It is a great blend of age and proof, offering more fullness than the standard Rebel offering. The finish is medium long with a lingering dryness with the spice going flat as the oaky smoothness lingers. Rather tasty and effortlessly enjoyable. This is a great one to have on hand.

Boone County Eighteen33 Straight Bourbon 10 Year
Bourbon — (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed April 14, 2024 (edited October 1, 2024)The nose is vibrant with oak and citrus, there is plenty of brown sugar sweetness with hints of vanilla immediately following. As it breathes, the citrus quickly takes over while being balanced by oak. It is very fresh and bright, certainly does not imply that it is a decade old. The palate is gentle and full of oak. It doesn't coat the mouth, but rather stays to where to put it. In those places, it becomes chewy which really brings out the citrus. Vanilla and brown sugar round it out in the background, but overall keeps this rather simple. Simple isn't a bad thing as long as it is done right. This is done right, but you might expect a bit more oak for its age and proof. A great, full bodied sipper, but a bit more complexity would be nice. The finish is medium and while the mouth stays tingling for a bit, the flavors quickly fade. First the sweetness, then the spice. Oak is the dominant after taste, but overall the need for more depth holds this back a bit, -
