The nose starts with charred oak, ripe fruit, brown sugar and faint hints of vanilla. There are some grassy notes mixed in along with the sweeter notes, but on further exploration it could just be grain. The palate is incredibly gentle with just the slightest kick of spice as it fills the mouth with charred oak, ripe fruit and grain. The whiskey quickly mellows out as charred oak in grain become the dominant notes on your second sip. The finish is medium with a slight bit of spice that leaves the mouth tingling as charred oak - which has become almost astringent now - quickly fades. This could use a little more aging to sort out the grassy and grainy notes. As otherwise, there is a lot of potential for this to be an incredibly flavorful whiskey.

The nose is a vibrant mix of smoke, charred oak, ripe fruit, leather, vanilla, brown sugar, leather and so many other notes that come together to make this whiskey. It is just remarkable what you can pick out of this. The mash bill is not something you really ever see, offering the most amazing, unique experience. You just want to keep visiting this over and over and over, if the risk perfection it is this. The palate is somewhat dry and chewy, but fills the mouth with an incredible mix of flavors - everything from cinnamon, to charred oak, to baking spices, to ripe fruit and vanilla. It's a whirlwind and leaves you thinking that you cannot ask for more. The finish is endless and immediately gives you lingering chart oak and vanilla, but then as you chew you get rye spice and ripe fruit. This is so complex and deep, it feels almost criminal this is my last glass of this whiskey. I was lucky enough to have two bottles of this, and while whiskey isn't meant to stare at it till the end of time, this is one that I am truly in wholeheartedly going to miss. This gives you everything. All I can say is, I'll always think of this one.

The nose is full of charred oak and vibrant, sweet fruit, with creamier notes of vanilla bringing it together. Dried flowers and floral rye spice round out the effervescent experience. There is no mistaking that this is a well aged rye, as the fruit and floral notes get more and more intense with age. The palate is gentle, rich and easy to swirl around the mouth before it lets off with a burst of floral rice spice that coats the entire mouth. Charred oak and vanilla balance it out, rounding it out as a big burst of flavor. The finish is long and spicy, with rye keeping the mouth tingling as everything else comes together and slowly fades away, giving you something to chew on to continuously extract more and more flavor. 8 years is a great age for rye, as at that point the rye spice can separate itself from the younger, grassier notes of young whiskey. It's a shame that aged rye like this isn't the norm in terms of availability and accessible pricing. However, we were lucky that Sagamore is able to deliver on both of those points and give such a great rye.

Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C922
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 27, 2025 (edited January 28, 2025)The nose is an immediate burst of charred oak and cinnamon, with cooked brown sugar, leather, followed by touches of vanilla and a little bit of molasses. These are usually quite simple upfront, giving you an indication of what the dominant flavors will be. The palate is dry and immediately fills the mouth with charred oak and cinnamon, backed up by just a hint of cherry. The slight hints of fruit is pretty common when dealing with wheat. The spice soon tames allowing you to fully explore just how deep these flavors are. Oak gives way to vanilla smoothness with a touch of brown sugar adding just enough sweetness. The dryness helps to keep this from coming across as either too sweet or too smooth. The finish is medium long and dry with lingering oak and cinnamon as creamy vanilla fades away. -
The nose is gentle, immediately offering up ripe fruit, oak, fresh flowers and the faintest hint of honey. This is very fruit forward, coming across more like a brandy than a whiskey. It's intriguing and gives you great anticipation to see if if follows through when you take a sip. The palate is just as gentle offering the great balance of ripe fruit and charred oak, with a touch of rye spice bring it together. The added intensity from the spice is very much welcome as it gives depth to the sweetness of this whiskey. And it is definitely all about sweet and floral notes which is honestly a welcome change. It keeps the experience rather simple but different, with a depth of flavor that really goes a long way. The finish is medium with lingering notes of spice and sweetness as everything else unfortunately too quickly fades away. The finish is the one thing that really holds this back, if only it was just a little longer and richer.

Jack Daniel's Eric Church Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee , USA
Reviewed January 25, 2025The nose is sweet and oaky, a dead match for a banana split with the richest vanilla ice cream you can find. There are hints of leather and smoke behind it all, but first and foremost it comes across as a dessert. The palate is very easy going, with oak and vanilla ice cream immediately carrying over. Bananas and dark chocolate follow behind, as the notes of smoke and leather are very faint in the background but do indeed around everything out. This is a very tame and gentle offering of Jack Daniels single barrel, allowing you to spend more time with the creamier and sweeter notes. The finishes medium, unfortunately running out of steam too soon. The mouth stays full of oak in vanilla ice cream as it all comes to a conclusion. -
Old Elk Wheater Bourbon (Lock & K(e)y Whatever the Wheater microbatch)
Bourbon — Indiana, USA
Reviewed January 22, 2025 (edited January 23, 2025)The nose starts off strong with charred oak, peanut butter, smoke, creamy vanilla and brown sugar. It is quite rich and different than what you are used to usually with wheated bourbons. The palate gives you a big burst of baking spice followed by charred oak, as peanut butter comes in behind. There is a bit of a dryness to it and on further visits, the peanut butter becomes stronger. This is a bold and full whiskey, keeping the flavors simple but strong. Incredibly enjoyable for a nice kick of spice. The finish is long and spicy, with a lingering dry oak that slowly fades along with a bit of a nuttiness. -

Reviewed January 21, 2025The nose is full of dark chocolate and charred oak, followed by earthy rye spice, vanilla and touches of leather. It comes off a bit simple, yet it is intense and full with what it presents. To me, that is a good sign. The palate is so easy to swirl around before giving way to a burst of dark chocolate and earthy rye spice, that gets the mouth tingling. The mouth stays full of flavor as a slight chew develops, as charred oak then comes in. It is wonderfully delicious, offering fewer but richer flavors compared to others. So easy to chew on, so exciting to take a sip of. The finish is medium long with a lingering pepperiness that keeps the mouth tingling alongside a wonderful chew. Dark chocolate rounds everything out as it unfortunately fades. -
