Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 9, 2020 (edited August 10, 2020)It's interesting as heck. The smell is honey and spice but the taste has raisons and strong clove flavors. Taste reminds me of how clove cigarettes smell from a distance. This is one I'll need to try again. It stands out as dramatically unique. Reminds me of what bourbon barreled beers taste like. Which normally never taste like bourbon to me but taste like this. -
Highland Park Magnus
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed August 9, 2020 (edited September 20, 2020)Light fruit and honey in the nose. Maybe some orange peel. Something tannic almost musty, reminds me of how a wine barrel room smells. Pungent for 1/2 second then salt and some chocolate finishes around scrub brush initially. Light smoke and nice dose of peat appears from nowhere on the finish. That reduces to hints of peat, baking chocolate and heather lingering last -
Updated after second tasting. Surprisingly easy sipper for the low price point. Some leather, but more leather cleaner and oak on the nose with caramel at a distance. Almost dryer sheet too. Initial taste is sweet, bannana but more fake like runts, you taste the corn but enough rye to add some spice and burn for a second or 3, finishes softer like raisins in banana nut bread with warm honey butter but never loses that spicy burn fully.

Not strong nose but vanilla, caramel and leather. Taste is light burn, some more vanilla, wet cardboard, caramel, tabacco and some citrus peel. Finishes long with some sawdust and straw. It's good but makes me wonder what all the hype is about. If I paid 160+ I'd be upset. Splash of water just thinned everything out. Dumped 6/25/20 barrel 426 warehouse H Rick no 1 at 93 proof.
