Stagg Barrel Proof Bourbon 22A
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2024 (edited February 8, 2024)Aroma - honey, alcohol soaked dark fruits, caramel dominate the nose. I keep picking up a big rye note as well that elevate the complexity. Vanilla, aak. burnt marshmallow and hint of black licorice really help develop complexity. This is candle-worthy IMO Taste - Blast of vanilla, caramel and citrus.. (some vibes of orange creamsicle mixed with a shit ton of caramel). Some oak notes For the proof it is quite decadent and is well hidden. Overall - Wow. This batch is incredible. I’m not a huge BT fan as all of them are overpriced at most stores but this one is really damn good. The finish is long and full of heat, caramel, and burnt marshmallow .... every few sips I get a wave of orange creamsicle that ebbs and flows on the finish as well which is awesomel -
Angel's Envy Private Selection Single Barrel Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 5, 2024 (edited September 9, 2024)105.8 proof 52.9% ABV Aroma - massive brown sugar, burnt caramel, cherries and raisins. Slight hint of lumber… Really nice balance of port here. Taste- follows the nose with brown sugar. Nice balance of the port barrel. Slightly drying on the palate. Overall - I’m not usually big on port finishes, but this pretty nice -
Penelope Architect 6 Year Celebreation
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed February 5, 2024 (edited February 6, 2024)Aroma- berries and oak jump out of the glass. Love it. Awesome vanilla profile as well. As it opens, caramel really pushes forward. Very sweet all the way around. There is no alcohol presence whatsoever. No rye presence either so not sure what the mashbill is and Im too lazy to look it up (vial provided by a close friend) Taste - A sweet caramel and oak bomb. This is all oak at all levels of the palate (from start, mid-palate and finish). The oak really becomes slightly drying on the finish though. There is a presence of the typical vanilla note but its more at the front of the palate Overall - the French oak dominates the palate. The viscosity is tremendous though. Really coats the entire palate. -
Aroma-caramel and old wet oak are really bold here up front. Getting quite a bit of lemon cake with vanilla frosting… and some leather presence as well coming through. As it opens up I’m getting some red apple notes and even a slight touch of cracked black pepper. I must say. For a <$40 bottle, the nose is quite nice and complex. The oak presence is very nice and reminds me a much older aged bourbon. Really hope the palate follows the nose on this. Taste - light fruit and caramel.. touch of vanilla. Still getting a light hint of that sweet cake and frosting. The finish is very short and has a slightly drying aspect on the back end. This is coming in quite hot too. Little rough around the edges to be honest. Overall - the nose is far superior than the palate. The nose comes off complex and much older.. the palate is youthful, flat and the finish is quite drying. It drinks a hotter than its proof too. For under $40 price, it’s average. Decent bottle to leave out for parties (I ended up putting this into a decanter). Probably something I will end up making an old fashion with. Doubt I grab another bottle.

Ben Holladay 6 Year Rickhouse Proof Small Batch Reserve
Bourbon — Missouri, USA
Reviewed February 4, 2024 (edited March 23, 2024)Aroma - Bold and in your face.. It’s bright up front but there’s a dark profile for a backbone. (Pretty awesome to be honest) Getting a lot of baking spices with vanilla. Very fall-like dessert here. Very musty/oaky profile coming out as well which I personally enjoy. Taste - Damn. That is nice. I pick up lot of dessert notes here. Similar to the nose, getting lots of fall-like profile. Like a caramel apple with vanilla frosting that has baking spices lightly sprinkled over it. Even pops some rich butterscotch on the finish with bubblegum notes. Decadent and rich. Overall - The finish is and viscosity is amazing. The long finish in my opinion really makes this bourbon special. The caramel and slight butterscotch note seems to never fade and sticks to the palate. This is really a damn good offering and for the price, it’s a must buy. It drinks way above its price point and way below its proof in my opinion. 5.0 easily for the price. -
Stagg Barrel Proof Bourbon 23C
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 31, 2023 (edited January 1, 2024)Aroma - dark fruits with tons of caramel come up right away.. there’s vanilla presence towards the back. Also picking subtle rye notes here. Haven’t had that many Stagg offerings but I don’t recall rye being as noticeable on previous pours. As it opens I’m getting hints red fruits (raspberry and apple cinnamon) Taste - Big, bold flavors as expected. Tons of caramel and vanilla in your face with a huge alcohol kick. That Kentucky hug is strong and I really enjoy it. Rye spiciness isn’t coming forward like it did in the nose… instead it’s coming through in the way of a light bubblegum note. Overall - Solid if you can get it at or close to MSRp but not worth the up-charge that is seen in most liquor stores. -
Jack Daniel's 12 Year (Batch 1)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 17, 2023 (edited December 18, 2023)Came back to it. Aroma - awesowm JD profile… bananas, caramel, slightly charred marshmallow. Berries as well… bread and buttery notes. It is great Taste- well… caramel.. banana are present. And then there is nothing else. Overall - single barrel, barrel proof.. is by far better than this. If your palate cant handle the high proof offefinga, then this will be great If your palate prefere high proof, bold and intense profiles… then you will be disappointed -
Little Book Chapter 7: In Retrospect
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed November 19, 2023 (edited February 3, 2024)Aroma - lots of greenery here. Rye is dominating this neck pour. Wintergreen gum and pine notes black licorice. Leather is off the charts here as well. Very bold. As it opens, apples really make their presence known. Taste - This is one complex offering. Rye and old oak is very evident here. The Beam peanut butter profile is found way in the back on this. Apples and light berries also come through here as well mid-palate. Just a slight punch of that peanut butter creaminess comes forward on the finish. Overall - This is extremely rye forward in my opinion. Rye dominates in the nose and the palate on this neck pour. The flavors are nice & well balanced. Worth the Price ? — Yes (I will update rating and this review during future pours) -
Found North Cask Strength (Batch 7)
Blended — Canada
Reviewed November 13, 2023 (edited December 6, 2023)Aroma - Smells like breakfast.. Blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and tons of buttery notes. There’s a spice aspect here from the rye profile but it’s more herbal than baking spices. The oak presence is strong and makes its presence known up front.. very nice.. as it opens, slightly charred (browned) marshmallow notes and honey push through.. it’s delectable Taste - Damn… everything from the nose comes through on the palate but I’m getting a slightly hint of orange creamsicle in addition. Overall- Amazing. The ABV feels closer to 115-120 proof. The viscosity is great the finish is medium to long. Complexity in both nose and palate is incredible. It’s damn good -
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch C923
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 9, 2023 (edited November 10, 2023)Aroma- butterscotch, very slight red fruits strawberry, solid oak presence, light cinnamon. Nice balance. Nothing to be fawning over though. Taste -Whoa.. not your typical Larceny profile here….. massive butterscotch and vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup. This is extremely sweet. Overall - It’s very good. More butterscotch on this batch that I recall in previous releases.
