Nose: soft and sweet with just a hint of oak Pallet: smooth on the front with a little pepper spice and a hint of vanilla. Finish: This where the 10 year old flavor comes through with complexity and a hint of pepto bismol mint. Not comparing this to Blantons but it like it, it’s a straight forward bourbon best enjoyed neat. This is a Kroger Single Barrel select bottle. Store picks vary but I find my local Kroger picks are flavored for the masses and have been rather enjoyable.32.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: very soft malt Pallet: You can tell this is young and you’re waiting for the harshness but it makes a peak but never comes out. Finish: Young spice that flows though but it does dissipate. This was my second pour of the night. As a second or third pour, this is a value way to end the night. Would like to see Monkey Shoulder come out with a premium blend!36.0 USD per Bottle

Old Tub Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 11, 2020 (edited December 17, 2020)Nose: Carmel with a hint of char. As you bring it into to taste you do get a whiff of corn. Pallet: Simple and the would a good entry into 100 proof as it is not harsh or over bitty. There is a thickness to it and it has a standard flavor profile but nothing is standing out other than the wood char of the barrel. Finish: Some heat but the spice lasts longer which is a nice characteristic. Fairly one dimensional but BIB for $25 and is smooth, I’ve had worse the costed a lot more. This is going to make in it at some point for my barrel aged old fashions. I bough a case when this came and did some damage this summer. On ice, by the second or third it starts to go down really easy.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Kirkland 12 Year Blended Scotch
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed December 8, 2020 (edited December 10, 2020)Nose: Very light and almost bourbon like. Pallet: light earthy peat (typical scotch) but again the flavor is light. Finish: Nothing major on flavor but just a light singe Trying this after a glass of Blue so that may have taken the edge off. Giving it an extra half point for the price (that does matter). Hats off the Costco for the value and wish Michigan had the 18 or 20 year. This is a good second pour.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose: Light and earthy. Pallet: Super smooth and a nice hit of peat. Finish: The finish carries that peat all the way through with earthy undertones. I use Blue as my measuring stick for all other scotch’s. Good enough to be drank neat. This is my favorite but also the one one I have at this price point.

Nose: Soft spice and pleasant Pallet: Smooth on the front with spice that builds on the back. Floral notes with a light pepper on the rear. Finish: Dry spice with a hint of something off but I find that typical with this pour and that may play into why it is so good as a mixer. Bulleit Rye is our daily for Old Fashions and is excellent as a barrel aged Old Fashion.27.0 USD per Bottle

Nose: Light with barrel notes. Touch of sweetness. Pallet: The additional barrel finish helps to smooth out the flavor with adding toasted notes. There is a touch of sourness. Finish: Dry and oak-ey warmness. The overall pour was very enjoyable, the $20+ increase in price in a more competitive class that it could compete but won’t win. EC is one of my daily drinkers and this is a fine twist on a old staple.

Barrel 567, 3.5 yrs, 129.5 proof Nose: Lighter than the 190 and more pleasant. Full mixture of spice. Pallet: Very earthy and dry (tannic) on the tongue along with what I’m told is flavors of the malted grain. Finish: Dry with more of the malted grain. After 2 more tastings I find the earthy was stays consistent.70.0 USD per Bottle

Barrel 190, 6.5 yrs, 137.6 proof. Nose: No alcohol but heavy spice Pallet: Lots of flavor on a full pallet, with All Spice and caramel undertones. Finish: Long caramel finish with a high proof burn (but manageable) After two other tastings I find the caramel is more on the spicy cinnamon side with fruit notes on the finish.70.0 USD per Bottle
