Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks
Rye — USA
Reviewed January 22, 2018 (edited May 23, 2018)Smells very sweet, that part of rum is very noticeable. It's a bit herbal and sweet on the front-end. There's a soapy note as well but it's not annoying. Very flavorful but not overbearing. It may be too sweet for some. Perhaps it's more of a dessert whiskey, but a delicious one at that. 1/20/18 -
Barrell Rye Batch 002
Rye — (bottled in) Kentucky, Multiple Countries
Reviewed January 22, 2018 (edited September 8, 2018)Very interesting. Strong malty notes both on the nose and palate, not sure why. It's spicy, sweet, and earthy. The flavors are strong. May not be everyone's cup of tea, as it's unique, but I think those who like it will really like it. Compared to 001, it's more of a particular profile/occasion whiskey. I could drink 001 any time and recommend it any day, but this I'd be more measured about. Still fits Barrell's MO of swinging for the fences, love what they're doing. 1/20/18 -
Barrell Bourbon Batch 004
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 21, 2018 (edited January 22, 2018)Classic nose, sweet and leather notes. Slightly astringent on the tongue. Nutty on the mid palate. Big flavors - salty, smoky, and sweet. But there are some nuances as well. Smooth at first but the warmth definitely creeps in, after a few sips your chest will heat up. Slight bitterness at the end. 1/21/18 -
Rock Town Arkansas Bourbon
Bourbon — Arkansas, USA
Reviewed January 18, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Smells malty. Tastes very malty, with a rye kick. Surprised this is bourbon. Smooth. A bit of must, slight floral notes. 1/18/18 -
Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 11, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Furniture polish, leather, and herbs on the nose. Very smooth, hard to believe this is 100 proof. Some wood on the palate, some spice creeps in at the back if the throat, but not much else. Feels creamy and thick. Tastes like muted old man bourbon but not that intense. Needs some time to open up. 1/11/18 -
Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed January 11, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Smells of fruit and maple sugar. Sweet and smooth on the palate, perhaps more intensely flavorful than you would expect with Crown. Some char and slight bitter notes at the end, along with pleasant spiciness. 1/11/18
