Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 2, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)Pine and honey on the nose. Then, charred oak and spice, along with burnt marshmellow. Strong scents. Fantastic nose. The palate is a departure from the nose. More spice heavy, very minty. Barrel char, slight bitterness. It does seem smoother than the proof suggests, but the warmth is still there. Not as much caramel as the older 108.2 proof batch, and much more herbal. The herbal and spice notes linger, as does the warmth. 2/2/18 -
Salt, nuts, burnt sugar, and fragrant spice on the nose. Lots there. A bit of heat on the palate, then a rush of honey roasted nuts, mint, and clove. Cinnamon as well. The spicy finish is medium in length, with a hint of bitterness and herbs. The sweetness stays consistent throughout. The great price on this bottle is a bonus - the quality of this juice stands on its own, it's quite tasty. Factor in the value and this is a must have in your bar (worth a trip to Kentucky to buy a case or two). 11/27/17

Bright fruit on the nose, brown sugar. Smells like apple pie. A slight earthy note as well. Rye kick immediately on the palate, although it doesn't seem to last. Smooth, albeit a little thin. But layers of flavor, baking spice, toasted wood, zest. Sweet, but a slight astringent note as well. Perhaps my favorite in the 1792 lineup. 1/28/18

Rye bread on the nose, it's herbal with sweet butter, a hint of clove honey. A burst of flavor on the front end, with honey, but that dissipates quickly and what's left is spice and lots of warmth going down. It seems both smooth and numbing. This is solid, and readily available for a decent price point. 1/27/18

Old Bones Bourbon 10 Year Reserve
Bourbon — Indiana (Bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed January 25, 2018 (edited August 1, 2020)Smells like... MGP. Strong on the nose, seems hot. Rich caramel. On the tongue, not as hot as the nose suggests, although it is hot. A bit astringent. Some apple. Cinnamon. Flavors seem muted. A few drops opened up the nose, more fruit. Opens up the palate as well, makes it sweeter and less dry. 1/25/18 -
