Very strong malt and orchard fruits on the nose. This could pass for hard apple cider. On the tongue, doesn't depart much from the nose. Very smooth on the front end, sharp on the back, acidic heat concentrates on the back of the throat. Some wood and light spice show up as well. Pleasant and straightforward. 6/8/17

Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 7, 2017 (edited March 23, 2018)Smells like sour apple pie, served a la mode. Very sharp on the palate, almost acidic. Tastes like it smells - apples, cinnamon, oak. Lingering warmth on the back end. Finish is dry. Overall, the mouthfeel is a bit thin. After a few minutes there's more vanilla on the nose, and some complexities arise on the palate - creamed corn, herbal bitterness, and baking spices that stick to the throat. A no-brainer purchase at retail, it has layers that most in this price range don't have. Am I scouring the countryside to hoard bottles even at current secondary prices? No. 6/7/17 All of the above, plus a floral note that surprised me. Still complex. Great at retail price. 7/3/18 -
George Dickel Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed June 3, 2017 (edited October 16, 2017)Soft nose. Tastes like peanuts with a strong rye floral component. Smooth. Could sip on this all night. 6/3/17 Nose is soft, with some chocolate and banana. Very smooth on the tongue, salted peanuts and Juicy Fruit chewing gum. Just sweet enough. A nice herbal spice lingers. Good stuff. 6/6/17 -
Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed May 31, 2017 (edited January 25, 2020)Spicy wood, honey, apples, and vanilla on the nose. Tingles the lips, but smooth on the palate. Floats above the tongue, like the juice never touches the taste buds. Unique in that way. The flavors come toward the back, it's pleasantly sweet, medium finish with nutmeg and cinnamon spices that blend with the apple and vanilla. Starts to pinch but never quite follows through with a bite. Smooth sipper. 5/31/17 -
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
Blended Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed May 30, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Strong smell of apple cider and mineral notes. Sharp on the palate, but just briefly. Very mild and smooth, with some fruit notes and a hint, just barely, of char. Finish has mint and cinnamon. This is fine, but if you're drinking anything else in the same session, this may get lost. /30/17 -
Rhum Barbancourt 5 Star 8 Year
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Haiti
Reviewed May 29, 2017 (edited June 2, 2017)Drinks like a whiskey. No off putting flavors, it's mild, woody, and a little spicy. But shouldn't rum be at least a little sweet? 5/29/17
