Caol Ila 13 Year Discovery (Gordon & Macphail)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 29, 2026Nose: Fruit — orange — and flowers accompany a light and fresh peatiness. Some chalk and honey. In the mouth whisky is light-bodied but strongly flavored with meaty , but not heavy, peat dominating. The orange and bitter floral greens emerge when the spirit is held in the mouth. Fairy complex and the finish is very long. Water doesn’t change things much, but stretches this fine dram a little further.69.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More -

Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed January 18, 2026 (edited January 19, 2026)Classic spicy rye nose with strong perfumey floral notes (violets) I’ve come to expect with previous Whistle Pig bottlings. Flavor is spicy vegetal and alcohol heavy with some mint, again a signature trait. There is an ashy taste on the finish. Water sweetens the nose and reveals more complexity with a strong citrus and wall-plaster thing dominating. Flavor however becomes bland and muted. This is a big loser for me. Some interesting things happen on the nose, but the flavor is desperately wanting.
