Trail's End 8 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Apple Brandy Casks
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 14, 2023A sweet caramel and honey hits then transitions to a oak, leather, golden apple, dried fruit, hay, then with the finish comes a long finish, with fine calvados-esque crispness and spice. this is a unique bourbon for sure and comes from hood river who makes mcarthy single malt. A barrel finish bourbon that works with the cask finish rather than obscure the bourbon. -
i had this on a first date and im not a complete barbarian as to take notes during that, but from what i tasted i was thoroughly impressed. rich roasted green and yellow peppers, nopal, turning into smokey, earthy snd mineral rich. There is almost a grittiness from the minerality that made the mouth feel incredible. Really starting to love agave karwinskiiRock and Rye

A sweetness off the bat reminiscent of honey, then turning into a drier but still relatively light dram. theres some oak, straw, dashes of caramel, little bits of minerality, char and then builds up to a moderate peat, higher than black label but milder than most islay. the finish is dry, medium length with light white pepper spice. This is a decent dram. Nothing stood out to me much other than its carribean point of purchase. its much better than black label but i feel even macleans nose beats this one.

Sweetness off the charts, starting with an intese caramel, vanilla, then evolves some ripe plum, raisin, and mild oakiness. The finish is sweet but short to medium with a very subtle spice. for the price i got this for, im very happy. Its 3 dollar off with a specs key club membership dropping it down to 19 dollars. An absolute steal

Very uncomplex in the begining, with light caramel being detected first, then flips everything on its head. that caramel increases as well as some roasted agave, rich oakiness, dashes of molasses, creamy vegetal notes closer to the finish as well. The finish has some light baking spice, caramel and leaves with a drier, short to medium length finish. Siempre knocking it out of the park again. Time to try the sauternes cask now!

Tequila Ocho Reposado Barrel Select Widow Jane 2022
Tequila Reposado — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed October 10, 2023Green agave up front, that evolves into roasted agave, cinnamon, mild oak, very mild char, apricot, and dashes of vanilla. The finish follows up with vanilla and mild cinnamon, with a short to medium length finish that is flower and tingly. Im guessing the lighter flavors come from its younger age, but this is not bland by any means. Its jam packed with flavor but relies less on the caramel, oak and vanilla notes. this is a wonderly bright reposado. -
1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 7, 2023 (edited October 10, 2023)Caramel smacks me in the mouth in the beginning, vanilla, some molasses, bannana and maplewood. later evolves into more oaky, leather and vanilla, with the finish being heavy spice, ethanol and caramel. This was a decent dram but a little hotter on the finish than id enjoy. But its similar to old grandad 114, with less brown sugar notes.40.0 USD per Bottle -
Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky
Canadian — Canada
Reviewed October 7, 2023 (edited October 10, 2023)Toffee off the bat, some mild oak, leather, some mild fruitness maybe strawberry. then some hay, mild baking spice and a rum-esque note near the finish. The finish has spice but nothing overwhelming, but the finish lasts and lingers gentle for a good while. Probably one of the best canadian whiskeys ive had, and what a great price for a single barrel!
