Got to try this following our distillery tour @ Journeyman. Unfortunately, not much to report. Nothing on the nose, and no standout flavors on the palate. Not sure how long the finish is, mostly because I couldn’t tell when it started. Smooth I guess, as there was no discernible hug. Not a bad whiskey, just not much reason to sip it, since their other options are far more interesting.

Sweet on the nose and palate. Think carmel, vanilla and sugar. Smooth, thin mouthfeel. Cinnamon red hot heat starts sooner than expected, and lingers into the medium length finish. Colin drove to Buffalo Trace on his day off to grab this allocated bourbon. Pretty good, think there are a lot of bourbons much easier to find that are just as good or better. But fun to get to try one that’s a little harder to come by!

Carmel and vanilla on the nose and palate. Nice mouthfeel and a long lingering hug. 8/27/22 - No noticeable difference from my first taste. Maybe a bit thinner, but still flavorful. Spicy hug is still present. Good, but probably don’t need to repurchase this one. 10/15/22 - Brought this along to share on a campout. Happy to say that this bottle has really improved, and have enjoyed it this weekend. Definitely better that ‘good’. Though still not sure I need to have this on the shelf all the time.

Opened this to celebrate Nick’s birthday. Just as good as I remembered it tasting during our KBT trip. 9/24/22 - Had a chance to taste this again during our RWT event a few weeks back. Sweet vanilla on the nose, nice mouthfeel and a spicy warming finish. Turned out to be one of the favorites at the tasting. Elevated to a 5.0 rating. Very good stuff!! Also, a very cool place to visit. Their distillery was one of our favorite stops during our Kentucky Bourbon Trail trip this spring. In addition to the beautiful setting and friendly staff, they offer a unique twist on tasting their spirits. Instead of taking a tour and then sitting down to do your tasting, you do both at the same time. That's right, you're drinking whiskey while you tour the grounds. Genius. Highly recommend checking them out if you get the chance!

Got to taste this following our tour of the distillery. Big improvement over the regular expression of this whiskey. Nose is rye spice and fruit, strong enough to almost taste it. Nice, viscous mouthfeel and classic rye flavor profile. Lingering spicy finish. Very enjoyable. Our sample was batch 12 (122.8 proof). Purchased one of those, and a bottle of the batch 14 (119.8 proof) based on our tour guides recommendation.

Barrel # 1859 Bottle # 226 Classic vanilla caramel nose, sweet oaky palate with a fairly short cinnamon finish. An excellent expression of this favorite. 8/2/22 - This pour is very nice. Same flavors as before, finish seems longer this time around though. Excellent 11/29/22 - Nearing the end of this bottle. Vanilla nose still present, as is the cinnamon finish. Seems to have remained consistent throughout my time with it.

Smooth sipper. Rum finishing adds a sweetness to the taste. Spicy finish shows up late. Nice rye.

Don’t get much of a nose from this. Rye spice note on the palate and finish. Probably would make a nice cocktail.

Oak on the nose, sugar and fruits on the palate. Short to medium finish. Thinner mouthfeel. A very nice bourbon, but if I only had room for one of these, the 1920 wins hands down.
