Tastes

The first bottle purchased on our KBT trip. Tours and tastings were booked; owner gave us a complimentary pass for each on our next trip. Then suggested we try this bottle. Great advice! Fruity on the nose, dry but flavorful on the palate and a slight, short burn on the finish. Not your run of the mill usual! Always enjoyable.

Nose on the first pour from the bottle is a fruity ethanol. Appears viscous in the glass, but mouthfeel is a bit thinner than expected. Not bad, and not thin, just thinner than it looks. Nice mellow flavors on the palate. Long, spicy rye finish. 8/1/22 - Nose seems sweeter than the first go round, otherwise nothing new to report. Very easy going sipper, and makes a fantastic Old Fashioned. I’d like to try the Special Release version of this one someday.

Citrusy cinnamon red hots. A bit numbing to the tongue! Not sure I’d call it smooth, Rebel is a good name for it! Lots going on here.

My favorite at our Heaven Hill tasting. Luckily happened across this bottle at a local liquor store. Still a favorite. Has an almost creamy feel to it, very smooth. 8/27/22 - Been waiting on this bottle to relax and open up. Had been getting medicinal notes that were off-putting. Finally, this evening, it’s there. Smooth sipper that I remember from our Heaven Hill visit has shown up.

Fruity on the nose, but doesn’t carry through to the palate. Fairly long cinnamon red hot finish. Not my favorite rye based on this taste. Might make a good cocktail. Tried another pour of this, and an old fashioned as well. Still not my thing. Has a lot of positive reviews, but not a match for my palate I guess. Shame, love their beer. Busted Knuckle and Fool’s Russian are fantastic!

Subtle nose, smooth palate and an amazingly sweet finish. Worthy of trying a bottle if I find it on the shelf.

Excellent nose, classic palette. Oily feel and a nice finish. Definitely do this one again!

Peppery nose. Thin mouthfeel and the typical carmel vanilla flavors on the palate. Cinnamon red hot finish. Enjoyable neat, makes a nice old fashioned too. 7/19/22 - Final pour from this bottle. Still enjoyable, and glad I picked this up on our KBT trip. But nothing outstanding, overall. Wouldn’t need to keep this one on the shelf at all times.

Purchased at the distillery. Filled our own bottle, using the thief, from barrel #3. All the usual suspects on the nose, great flavors and fairly long-intense hug for the finish. A favorite!
