Nose: light sweet, sweet sugary candy but a light bright candy, crisp orchard fruits, apple, pear, light perfume floral-like nectar notes, honey, hint of vanilla, buttery, rich but not in a heavy dense way, some light spice notes. Taste: light sweet candy almost like smarties, crisp fruits, citrus, orange, lightest wispy hint of peat or char that gets mixed in with light oak barrel spice, peppery note, finish has a creamy like quality, spiciness lingers for a moment and fades to an herbal grassy like note (almost a bitter note) but flattens and leaves the mild heat of the spice at the end. Damn good dram for the price. One of the better ones I’ve had overall and at this price point, I can’t complain. Well done scotch.

Nose after 15 min rest: Apple, pear, apricot, and some spice are dominant. Bright citrus, hint of vanilla, caramel. On the taste is honey, caramel, apple, citrus, vanilla, with the moderate finish carrying honey and caramel, a touch of grain grassiness. Some mild spice in the finish, and a subtle note of chocolate.

Nose: apple, clover, frosties, sap, tile grout, orange barley Palate: malty, pineapple, a bit grainy, pepper Finish: wood, slightly bitter _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Semi-Final 1: Compass Box King St. Artists Blend versus Old Pulteney 12yo It lives up to the tagline of rich, round and fruity. It holds up well against stiff opposition and only marginally loses out tonight against OP12 based on a less complex nose. Nevertheless, I think this is a great blend and, based on some of the prices I see, great value for money. I might look to pick one up. _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- The intolerable torment of a whiskyphile. I have too large a backlog of samples and miniatures to go through. Like selecting what to watch next on Netflix, often selecting a dram can take twice as long as drinking it. So I have picked sixteen scotch whiskies that are 12yrs or younger or NAS to battle it out in a Scotch Deathmatch. It’s my incentive to lighten the logjam. Follow along if you care (and really why should you?). Oh the drama! https://challonge.com/ScotchMadness
