Hazelburn 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed February 23, 2024 (edited October 13, 2024)Nose - light bit complex. I get hints of light fruits and salt. Reminds me of brined meats along with herbs and spices. There is a tinge of chemical, medicinal quality to the aromas as well. A very interesting nose, reminds me of springbank 10, but also very different in many ways! As stated, do not get any peat smoke. Tongue- Light but deceptive! It coats the mouth very well!! I get fruits and sweetness but its a very subtle sweetness! There is bitterness and saltiness as well! Has a pretty decent chemical style funkiness as well. I guess that is what campbeltown funk is! It is pretty spicy as well! A complex mixture of flavors! Similar and yet different than the springbank! Finish is medium long. All in all a very impressive dram! It is very unique and is a thinkers whisky, as are the other campbeltown offerings. I prefer this much more over the Hazelburm 13 oloroso cask (2007). Would definitely recommend the purchase!99.0 USD per Bottle -
First japanese whisky ever Nose - immediately reminds me of bourbon. Has that chocolatey, malty flavor with hints of vanilla and baking spices. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Also has a bright character, some freshness. Tongue - it is a lot like bourbon and also different than a bourbon. It is spicy. Got a good hit of alcohol burn. It is very thick and coats the mouth very well. Good feel. The spicy overpowers the sweet. Two drops of water completely toned the spiceyness down for me. Has a good mature mouthfeel. Solid introduction to japanese whisky!12.0 USD per PourThe Franklin Room

Longrow Peated
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 9, 2024 (edited January 10, 2024)Third in the campbeltwon list for today. Nose - a good amount of peat, but clearly different than an islay peat. There’s no charriness. You can smell the oils as well. Has a strong medicinal character, like a first aid box. I for some reason smell neosporin or some medicinal ointment. Tongue - a very mild wet smoke. Not too sweet, medicinal for sure! Very oily in nature and flavor!! Funky mid palate! Little salty and bitter! Finish feels short medium. Leaves a funky aftertaste! Interesting expression from Springbank distillery! Preferred this over hazelburn 13 oloroso June 20078.0 USD per PourThe Franklin Room -
Hazelburn 13 Year Oloroso Cask Matured
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 9, 2024 (edited January 12, 2024)Exploring the campbell town after springbank 10. Hazelburn 13 olosoro distilled 2007. Nose - Very fresh as expected, like apples and grapes. Clear sherry nose. A few wiffs of medicine and floral notes show up as well. For some reason i also smell sweat! Taste - sweet at first, spicyness, strong sherry flavor! Mild smokyness as well, has a strange drop off from the sweetness to the funk. Not springbank 10 funk, but something like wet moss or grass. Leaves me with a medicine cabinet feel. Finish is medium. Interesting and strange experience! Ill give the bottle the benefit of the doubt. The lounge has that bottle for a long while it was almost empty. Perhaps a lot of oxidization etc., has changed the character of the spirit. Will have to revisit this later with a fresh bottle.16.0 USD per PourThe Franklin Room -
Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed December 27, 2023 (edited February 22, 2024)I’ve been on this whisky journey for a relatively short period of time, roughly two years. Got into scotch through a close friend of mine. On this journey, i have watched many videos, read articles and reviews and the name Springbank has come up a lot. Quickly i understood the hype and the elusive nature of this spirit and was warned about its inflated price tag. Today, a road trip, led me to a liquor store i found by chance and i happened to find this bottle at a very reasonable price tag, and i pulled the trigger. Nose - A very well rounded nose! You get everything, sweet and savory and smokyness! A big hit of fresh fruits lead the way: apples, banana, pears, pineapple and grapes. This is quickly followed by peat smoke. I had no idea the amount of peatiness i would get from this! As i comprehend the peat, hints of chocolate and salted caramel show up as well. There is a herbal, medicinal quality to the aroma as well. I have to say that it is perhaps, the most complex array of smells I’ve smelled in a whisky. Mellow and complex. Taste - As soon as i sip it i get fruity syrupy flavors immediately followed by a pretty decent peaty smoke hit! It tastes almost like how it smells. Very pleasant and crisp and clean. It is very sweet at first in a good way, like a well balanced fruity pastry but has some charred dough elements to it. There is a small hint of saltyness as well. Well rounded, medicinal and spicy but not overpowering. It is oily in nature and coats the mouth and tongue well. The finish is a good medium! The after taste leaves a fresh spring season type of feeling, herbal and minty and bittersweet. Perhaps, the most well rounded scotch I’ve tasted. I love islay whiskies and am a huge fan of the peatiest of whiskies. The presence of a good amount of peat smoke gives it a big thumbs up from my side. I finally, get the hype and the lore behind this distillery and this expression. However, I don’t think it is worth the inflated price that some places are selling it for. But i do think its worth the price that springbank puts on it.99.0 USD per Bottle -
GlenAllachie 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 25, 2023 (edited December 26, 2023)Nose - a mellow but complex mix of fruits, baking spices. Has a sherry forward nose. Sweet smelling and pleasant! A soft nose, with mild spicyness. Tongue -sweet and mildly spicy! A mouthful of christmas cake in liquid form. Notes of apricots, rum soaked raisins, cinnamon, star anise and licoriche flavors. Leaves a fresh feel in the mouth. Has an oily mouth feel but the finish is too short. If the finish was long, this would be a really highly rated scotch in my books. -
Bunnahabhain 12 Year Cask Strength (2023 Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 19, 2023Nose - raisins, toffee, caramel, baking spices. There is a salty note as well. A little briney. Tongue - super sweet, sherry forward, punchy! Super sweet and pretty balance. Very spicy probably due to the high abv! Adding two drops of water brings out peat smokiness even though its not peated! Thoroughly enjoyed the dram!! -
